One of the neat things about the internet is the ability to visit websites from all over the world. Dream of buying that Maserati? It's easy to find them online, not just in the US but in Italy as well. Think that finding auto usate milano "car sales in Milano" won't help you because you don't happen to know Italian?

Google and other browsers will translate webpages for you. While not all of the words always translate from the language of the website into proper English, some terms are easy to guess without a translator, like vendita auto usate, auto is self explanatory, usate is sale, so it's easy to guess the phrase is used car sales.

The amount of information the Internet brings us is pretty amazing, I'm one of those that takes the time to research products and large item purchases before I buy. Sometimes the consumer reviews on products makes me decide a product is for me, sometimes it makes me have second thoughts. The power of vitamins and minerals...

Having survived an increased regiment of iron pills, I've learned first hand how vitamin supplements can be important. Considering how low my iron levels were - 18 when the minimum is supposed to be 50, I was surprised to discover my vitamin B levels came back normal on the last blood test. (I still can't get over the irony of having someone who is severely anemic have to have blood tests that requires vials, and vials of blood being drawn.) I don't like the side effects of the iron, it's one of the reasons I've purposely taken vitamins without iron these past years. Unfortunately, it's a necessary evil at this point. My most recent blood test shows my hemoglobin is now up from a low of 8 to 11 (shooting for 12) and my iron levels were slightly above 50. All from vitamins and minerals...

Wrap your credit cards in tin foil...

Technology is great, but it can at times have unintended consequences, there has been a growing concern when it comes to radio-frequency-identification (RFID) technology and security. The new ePassports and millions of credit cards use this technology, rather than having to swipe your card? You tap it and voila, your purchase is complete.

There are things you can buy to protect your credit card or your passport, like a rfid blocking wallet or RFID sleeves or even use tin foil (if you want to get some real looks at the store when you unpeel your credit card).

While card issuers say sleeves aren't necessary and claim the newer RFID cards no longer have the cardholder's name and say it would be more difficult for a thief to use the card number without a name or security code, it's still something you should be aware of. Especially since there is no "off" button and some credit card companies don't give you an option as to an RFID free card...

Why you should think about your furnace in the summer...

Right now with it being over 90 degrees outside in most parts of the country, the last thing you are probably thinking about is your furnace. Yet, summer is a great time to have your furnace checked out and if it's time to replace more than those furnace filters -- there are usually some great discount deals before the weather gets cold from a variety of furnace manufacturers and local businesses. You should also check with your local energy provider, sometimes they have rebate deals for replacement of furnaces or other high energy use appliances.

Someone has my electronic cigarette...

From time to time I do product reviews where I'm sent a product, I try it out and I write about it. Not long ago I was supposed to review a style of electronic cigarette -- the item was shipped and it never arrived. Unfortunately this is not the first time that someone has either taken a package out of our mailbox after it was delivered or it never appeared.

We don't have a regular mail person to even be able to ask, cuts here at the local post office have created a scenario where our mail is delivered by whoever has time to do an extra route. It is frustrating and in this scenario it was a product I was really looking forward to checking out. So for now? We'll not discover what I think of them.

Supplements online...

It's pretty amazing how many different types of supplements you can find to purchase online. From hgh for sale to a nutritional supplements, it's out there. Research is something I always recommend but I also always recommend asking your health professional first. It is fairly clear most people don't take that extra step and in some cases may not really get a benefit from a product that for their particular situation, may not be needed...

Backing up is not hard to do...

I have an external harddrive that I use to back up the information on my computer, I try to do this every week or so, just in case something were to happen to my computer. I learned the hard way after losing everything several years ago. There are people that prefer to use an online backup system, which does has some advantages, especially if some sort of natural disaster or other disaster such as a fire happened, your information would be stored somewhere else. Whether you opt for the way I do it or using an online system, I recommend doing something. Most of us store quite a few important pictures and documents on our computers that would be very hard to replace...

E-commerce...did you know?

While there is usually a lot of chatter when it comes to Cyber Monday and online shopping, did you know that the Census Department actually estimates E-commerce?

The numbers are of course not recent, since we are dealing with the government and statistics, they are from 2007, but when you look at the report link to pdf you can see the main areas. I was surprised that motor vehicles and parts dealers ranked so highly as to total sales online.

My favorite face product...

While there are many who debate the best skin care products and there a variety of products that may be the best treatment for acne for you, I have been using witch hazel since I was a pre-teen. My grandmother was the one who actually told me about the astringent aspect of witch hazel when I was complaining that the products on the market back then, dried out my skin. It's easy to find in most grocery stores or pharmacies and it's very inexpensive, under $2.00 for a large bottle. All else that is required is cotton balls or tissues, you simply wash your face, then apply the witch hazel. It also works to shrink and contract blood vessels back to normal size and can be used for hemorrhoids, as well as insect bites.

I actually had a witch hazel tree in my yard at one time, but I was never able to successfully make my own witch hazel potions.

As campaigns turn to the internet...

Something I'd be interested in finding statistics on is with the studies being done showing that less people are reading print media and more are turning to the internet, is are political campaigns turning more and more to the internet than to direct mail marketing? I'm noticing a trend with the last presidential election that I still received mailing pieces through the US postal delivery system but far fewer than the previous presidential election cycle. Emails however, increased dramatically with not just emails purported to be from the candidate, but their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, spouses, even dogs in some cases. All appearing to be chatty little missives designed to not look like what they really are. "SEND ME MONEY"

Spot removal...

Some days I feel old, I know that being almost 50 is not old as in the sense I'm not even considered a senior citizen yet, I know many people much older than I am lead very happy active lives. I have not gotten to the point where I've started looking for the best age spot remover out there, at least not yet. Though I admit at times looking in the mirror for signs of aging. Thankfully while my hair is going gray, my skin is still holding up well.

While the economy may be not doing well in some areas, when it comes to diet products, that market seems to be still doing well, at least from an advertising/marketing standpoint, all you need to see this is to see how many ads there are out there for what is the best fat burning supplement. The diet industry is a multi-million dollar one that appears to be still doing fairly well despite the downturns other industries are facing. It was estimated several years ago to be a 100 billion dollar industry...

Do you read before you buy?

Are you the type of person that buys products on impulse? Many are, they'll see a product and buy it without doing any research at all. I recommend research, especially if it is a diet product. It's easy to find reviews for some of the popular products out there, like a xenadrine rfa x review which can provide helpful information. I also recommend checking ingredients and prices, as well as reading the fine print. Many of these products claim to have a money back guarantee, but the actual shipping and handling charges are set higher because they are not refundable.

Things I ponder...

I'm trying to get motivated after a very hectic week where I got a lot accomplished but today feel a little burnt out though I have more to finish before the weekend is over. So when I came across this hair loss shampoo it created some fun pondering...I wondered if it would be more positive to call these products, "hair gain" or "hair grow" since that's the action those who purchase it hope for. It's also interesting because most people think that it's mainly men who are impacted by hair loss, but it's something that some women are affected by as well. Which in many ways is harder for them as a self-image issue since we as a society do accept a receding hairline in a man or even men who decide to shave their heads...

Bureaucracy creates jobs...

No where is that more evident than when it comes to the government benefit system, especially related to the disability appeal system. Companies have been formed specifically to try to help people navigate a system that has become at times too complex for the average person to try to work their way through. Companies like Allsup have helped more than 130,000 people, which while it's great they have found a way to not only help people but to employ people, makes you wonder as to the larger issue of how things got that complex in the first place and what the real solutions are.

The growth of online education opportunities

My bunch who has been in college and is still in college took a mix of online courses and in person more traditional setting's curricula. This next semester one of mine will be taking all of her courses online. While for her degree it may not be possible for her to avoid the traditional educational setting completely, there are universities that specialize in helping students obtain an online degree.

One of the surprises for me, was that universities like Western Governors Online University offer an online teaching degree. It's an accredited program and does contain the required student teaching component, that is not done online that is done in a traditional classroom setting. Online courses are not for everyone, you have to be able to manage and budget your time, but the trade off of being able to study and do your work at your own schedule and at your own pace, is one of the many reasons more and more are not heading off to the college campus but to their computers...

Ever just want to pack it up and try someplace new?

There are days when the day to day dealing with people of this area that don't seem interested in moving towards the positive but appear to be determined to actually make things more difficult than they need to be gets tiring. While perhaps the grass always seems greener on the other side of the septic tank, I admit it's appealing at times to think about just calling up some cross country movers and going west. Into the mountains, where I'd be a hermit, write books and revel in solitude, only visiting the uncivilized society we now live in when necessary.

Would Dansko mean dance?

Still in word association mode, if you saw something for Dansko shoes would you think of dancing? I did, and I was wrong, they actually have a rather nice line of a variety of shoes, not related to dancing either. I'm a fan of clogs, they have some nice ones for both men and women. I do have to say though, as a huge fan of red boots, they had some nice boots, but no red...They do however have a really nice patent leather clog in claret...

What would be an unnatural fat burner?

Sometimes words/products make me think, let's say as an example it's popular to tout different types of natural fat burner yet, they don't call ones that are not from nature, "unnatural fat burners" -- what if they did? Would visions of witchcraft dance in your heads? Some magical unnatural presence appears to make the fat go *poof*? Ancient shamans appearing at your doorstep to make the fat go away?

As I ponder that, I also ponder why it is whenever I write about any type of diet or fat burning product I'm always hungry for something totally not a diet food...
