The Rev. Jesse Jackson apologized Wednesday for saying Barack Obama is “talking down to black people” during what Jackson thought was a private conversation with a FOX News reporter Sunday.
Jackson was speaking at the time about Obama’s speeches in black churches and his support for faith-based charities. Jackson added to the reporter, “I want to cut his nuts off.”
Jackson's son who's working for the Obama campaign ripped him:
Jackson's son, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois -- co-chair of Obama's presidential campaign -- publicly blasted his father's comments Wednesday.
"I'm deeply outraged and disappointed in Rev. Jackson's reckless statements about Sen. Barack Obama," the younger Jackson said. "His divisive and demeaning comments about the presumptive Democratic nominee -- and I believe the next president of the United States -- contradict his inspiring and courageous career."
Jackson Jr. added that he'll "always love" his father. But, he said, "I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric."
Jackson while apologizing blamed the media:
The elder Jackson repeated his apology in a news conference in Chicago a couple of hours before Fox News aired Sunday's remarks. He said he wanted to address the issue publicly before the cable network aired the comment, because "I know that they will further violate the context of it."

The Obama campaign issued a statement staying they accept Jesse Jackson's apology. It makes me think back to a cartoon shown on Saturday Night Live:

I'm glad this happened. Jackson says an honest statement and he gets burned. Remember last yaer when he helped get Don Imus fired. Sucks to be bitten by the same animal that you help create and support.
Personally, I don't think that Jackson should have apologized. He was being honest with his feelings and thoughts. He should have made sure that he wasn't on camera, but it happens. This is what happens when people have to say sorry for being honest.
I hope that Sharpton is forced to apologized for saying something stupid, but if he didn't pay for his lawsuit 10 years ago, then he won't apologize in the future.
I love it when the Democrats and the far left scream how the Repulicans are tearing down the Constitution. That may be true, but the far left is molesting the First Amendant, especially that pesky free speech part. We, as Americans, are allowed to say what we want. Being offended isn't protected by the Constitution. In the last twenty years, the American people have stopped being honest with each other so that whinny little special interest groups won't get their noses bent out of shape.
They scream that they are protecting the children. Yeah? Well, the kids are saying those nasty words anyway and since most of the parenst don't do a goddamn thing to displine their brats, the children don't respect authority and fear nothing and feel that everything should be handed to them.
Yes, we should question authority when we feel that there has been a wrong done to someone. But in the end, to rebel for rebellion sake is not only ignorant, but dangerous and that isn't good.
I would rather have someone curse me out and flip my the bird then beat the crap out of me, becuase "words hurt and we are so sensitive" (add whiney voice here).
As for the cartoon, that was great. Noone will say anything bad about that because it's a cartoon. Damn shame when a cartoon has more free speech rights that real people do.
Jesse apologized because he was caught, you are right C that if that was how he really felt and he was willing to say that to a reporter that he should have stood by what he said rather than say the media was going to take it out of context.
I don't know how you can put saying you want to cut someone's nuts off in a positive context.
There are some in the black community who are upset with Obama, but many justify his actions because they tell themselves that he really doesn't mean it, he's just saying it so that the rest of the voters out there that don't know him like they do will vote for him. They seem to believe once he's elected he'll return to the person they think he is. I think they are going to be very disappointed.
