Media making you a star whether you want to be one or not...

It's obvious that the last thing on the mind of Wesley Autrey was "Damn, if I save this guy I might get $10,000 from Donald Trump...or I could run for Mayor!" Yet once again our media demonstrates that they will invade, intrude and if necessary destroy you in their attempt to "cover" the news. While what Wesley Autrey did was very brave and he is most certainly deserving of some major kudos and applause from us, he did what he thought was right to save a man's life, not to become an instant media sensation. In his own words:

"What I did is something that every New Yorker should do. If you see somebody in distress, do the right thing. Help out. Okay?"

I also wish the Washington Post article would have stated exactly which tabloid was stupid enough to want Wesley to dress up as Superman...

Thank you for your support! As for Wesley, I loved his attitude about the entire thing. They showed him in CNN, and it was so fun watching his down-to-earth attitude.

You are most welcome Oseas, I enjoy reading your blog quite a bit. I love Wesley's attitude about this too, though I can understand his frustration, especially when the media started bothering his 6 year old.

Shades of synchronicity! Did you know that Wil Wheaton played the character Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation?!!! Talk about stars of more than one kind!
Not quite down to Earth, but Wesley Crusher saved many a day in the series crushing the bad guys or overcoming the impossible; he was a hero in his own right!

Perhaps if the media were willing to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, instead of trying to force the ordinary into their bizarre mold, then we'd get more accurate news coverage.

As for the tabloid Lisa, take your pick, there are PLENTY of likely candidates to choose from.

I thought that EVERYONE knew the Crusher/Wheaton connection.

Obviously I've spent too much time with my head in the stars ;-)
