In a way it is a good thing as it is an Arab nation willing to help train troops, and it appears Iraq is at least trying to act like an Independent State however...it is Iran and not sure of the US reaction on this one.....
Former foes Iran and Iraq have said they will sign a military cooperation agreement that will include Iranian help in training Iraq's armed forces.
The agreement marks a considerable advance in relations between the two countries that fought a bitter 1980-1988 war and comes despite repeated US accusations that Iran has undermined security in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
"It's a new chapter in our relations with Iraq. We will start wide defence cooperation," Iranian Defence Minister Admiral Ali Shamkhani told a joint news conference with visiting Iraqi counterpart Sadoun al-Dulaimi.
"We're going to form some committees which will be involved in mine clearance, identifying those missing from the war and also ... to help train, rebuild and modernise the Iraqi army," Shamkhani added.
Iran last year offered to train Iraqi border guards, but Baghdad declined the offer.
Asked about possible US opposition to Iran-Iraq military cooperation, Shamkhani said: "No one can prevent us from reaching an agreement."
Iraq's al-Dulaimi echoed Shamkhani's comments.
"Nobody can dictate to Iraq its relations with other countries," he said.

I am torn. I think it is fine that Iran helps out. Before our sabre rattling, Iran was actually moving towards a more open and liberal society. Iran can relate to the people and their beliefs better than us and as long as it is a deal between independent states, let them help train the military. We obviously aren't very efficient at it
Same here, I can see where it would be extremely helpful to take some of the heat off of our soldiers if Iran is involved. Anything that creates a stable Iraq faster? Might be worth considering.
Hello and welcome Daniel, I enjoy your blog very much so I'm glad you found mine.
Keep safe and your input and experience that you have will always be welcome and appreciated here.
Almost anything that makes you being able to come home and stay home is worth supporting. Though I'm not sure how the Sunni are going to react to this. They will probably be less happy than some of the Whitehouse staff.
I only hope that this we help unify the Middle East and that it won't bite us in the ass. If this is a step for lasting peace in the world, I'm all for it.
I think it is good for the fact that no matter how we feel about Iran, Iraq has to have some type of relationship with them. If they can work and coexist together, it is better for the region than trying to isolate Iran to make a change
