Should the choice of letting McClurkin sing at Obama event be an issue?

I could understand if the candidate took a position on homosexuality that was at odds with those who believe that homosexuality is not a choice but have we gone too far in our "outrage" when the choice of a performer is being used as a reason to not vote for Barack Obama? Personally after reading the CNN report, Obama takes heat for link to McClurkin you'd think for Democrats if they were going to complain about the choice of McClurkin that this would be the reason why:

McClurkin is a Grammy Award winner who performed at the Republican National Convention in 2004.

I'm not a fan of Obama but I think the heat on this one is unwarranted, unless he were to come out and state he agrees with McClurkin, which from my understanding he has not, or if McClurkin is going to sing about it...which is unlikely...this one seems like a much ado about nothing...
