Who believes Novak anymore anyway?

Here we go again, with Robert Novak :
WASHINGTON -- Agents of Sen. Hillary Clinton are spreading the word in Democratic circles that she has scandalous information about her principal opponent for the party's presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, but has decided not to use it. The nature of the alleged scandal was not disclosed.

As TPM points out:
Of course, as a matter of journalism and professional standards, Novak's piece was a textbook case of media irresponsibility. His column shouldn't have even run -- Clinton supporters (who he will not name) are allegedly spreading rumors about rumors (which he cannot identify) addressing an Obama scandal (which may or may not exist). Joe Klein suggested that Novak may have "simply abandoned all pretense of being a journalist."
The irony being that some who are "real" journalists slam on the blogs for not being responsible, yet I have yet to see a huge outcry from parts of the field of journalism to condemn Novak...

I also have to wonder why Obama's people would give Novak's rumor mongering any credibility at all by going off the deep end on this, unless they hoped they could make this work for, them which creates ethical questions on it's own as to that being a way to move up in the ranks of public acceptance...When I read, Don't Swiftboat Me? I felt like suggesting "Don't BS us"...He's already lost the support of some in the blogpshere and the real world for making the false promise of he wouldn't use negative campaigning. Accusing Clinton of trying to swiftboat him based on Novak? Can't get much more negative than that...
