Third, John Edwards is fast becoming the Howard Dean of this race. That's been apparent almost from the start of the year, but with each week it is more obvious. He has toughened his rhetoric and has sought to turn himself into the outsider candidate determined not just to battle for the nomination but to make reforming the Democratic Party a part of his message. All were elements of Dean's campaign four years ago.
I don't know where Dan Balz's been since John Edwards announced he was running for President but what he's seeing now has been what Edwards has done for quite some time. I guess the good news is Dan's on board now as far as realizing that most of us realize Edwards' advantage is he is an outsider...

I like Edwards a lot, I am just not sure he can win. I was not as big on Dean though because I also liked Edwards then.
The fact that the traditional print and broadcast media has neglected to provide equal time and coverage of all candidates is a large factor in Edwards' and others' present standing. That's how I see it. Clinton and Obama seem to get consistent and constant coverage in a press that treats the Democratic Presidential aspirants as a two-person horse race, sensationalizing the candidates and trivializing the issues.
I was very disappointed by the results of the debates from last night when they discussed same-sex marriage and civil unions.
I didn't get to see the debate, but I still want someone to explain to me exactly why they support civil unions and not same sex marriage. I don't want the sacred institution line of a man and woman either, but a real answer.
