Erin and Aubrey tried to get Quilla to swim yesterday once the pool was full. The dog hated it, she was swimming for dear life to get the hell out of the pool. As I predicted since the dog doesn't even like to go outside to go potty in the rain, this dog was not going to be like our golden retriever who loved any source of water.
We did discover one way Quilla will enjoy the pool though:

I'm going to wait until all the boys know how to swim (currently none of the four do, which is just sad for Wisconsin). Then, maybe I'll worry about a pool. They do love the water, but I do so hate the mosquitos.
I spray the yard with that stuff that kills mosquitos and fleas, I've never had a problem with pools even the smaller ones when I've done that. This one has a filter so it makes it even easier to keep clean.
See, and I don't know what "that stuff" is. I tend to have a chemical-free yard for the safety of the kiddies. I just try to keep the water from standing.
This stuff is safe for kids and pets once it dries, you just have to keep them off when it's wet. I used to prefer a chemical free yard too but for some reason the soil over here is really, really flea friendly and spraying the yard seems to be the only way for the poor dog to not be a mess. Even the prescription stuff from the vet wasn't working.
Poor puppy. I'm gladd it works.
Right now our problem is ants. The normal stuff is not working, and I haven't found anything I'm willing to try on the yard (the real problem). If you know of anything kid friendly that kills hoards and hoards of ants, please let me know.
My grandmother used to have mint plants because ants supposedly hate them. I've heard mint teabags work also to put near where they are gathering as a may to make them go away. I searched to see if this did work and her idea is on one of the Natural Insect Pest control websites:

Looks like peppermint oil and cinnamon also work according to this one
:-)
I don't know, they seem to like my coffee pot. Not the coffee itself, luckily, but I had to switch to a thermos because too many (a total of two before I made the switch) decided to take a suicidal swim in my coffee. Luckily I don't drink coffee black or else I wouldn't have even seen them.
I'll try the mint or the lemon. I know where they're getting in. It's just that the boys leave crumbs everywhere. Having a crumb-free house is currently an impossibility.
Peppermint oil is great with Stolichnaya.
Lilly is not a water dog, but Franki loves it. We got her a little kiddie pool that she will lay in or walk around in circles in for hours. She is also a big fan of blowing bubbles.
I need to look into sprays for mosquitoes. Since Minnesota is basically one big swamp, there is no shortage of them
Bob,
I think I'll stick to McGillicuddy's. I've never had a vodka that didn't give me a hang-over before I got drunk.
