Only I could end up with a dog story like this...

It was supposed to be so simple, my daughter's boyfriend wanted my daughter (which basically meant me) to watch a friend of his dog while the friend was visiting family in the United Arab Emirates. Ten days to two weeks, that was all...

The dog was almost perfect, his name is Prince he's almost 9 years old and with the exception of a few first days of him deciding to "mark his territory" in my house, he was great. Didn't bark, slept in his own bed, knew all kinds of tricks, tolerated Quilla and the cats and was a nice friendly dog.

Then his owner decides he's not coming back and he wants the dog shipped to him. The vet and I agree that the dog can't handle being shipped as cargo, but no one is listening to us. I try to tell the girlfriend of the guy who Prince belongs to what steps she has to go through to try to get the dog there and no one listens to me. My daughter feels it's that guy's dog and while that's true, shipping a dog that far that is that old that could very well die in transit seems like a pretty damn stupid thing to do. That's if they can even get the dog on the plane considering no one listened to me about what paperwork was required. They only have the vet certificate and didnt' get what is supposed to be needed from the Department of Agriculture.

So...will I get a phone call later today or tomorrow when the girlfriend discovers she can't ship the dog (I still never figured out why she couldn't watch the dog) or will the dog die in transit or will the dog end up happily living in the UAE? I have no idea...Except to know something as simple as babysitting a dog didn't turn out to be so simple...

Poor little guy. I don't even like the thought of flying dogs at all, much less alone and three quarters of the way around the world. Let us petnap the dog and put him in the PPP(Puppy Protection Program)

I suggested telling him that the dog ran away and since he didn't have tags didn't know what we could do.

If our government system works the way it's supposed to - there is no way that dog should be able to get on an airline without the proper paperwork and he doesn't have it.

Yeah, I know but I can't help being hopeful that for once it will work out the way it's supposed to.

There ya go again, throwing the wet blanket of reality all over other people's party...

Ordinary people have no clue what it takes to pull of such a "simple" task...

there's a grain of truth in that mess of sarcasm..., somewhere ;-)
