I'm not a fan of Giuliani at all, yet I really wonder if a presidential selection will come down to their stance on abortion. I know people who are conservative who don't feel abortion is that "one" issue, they are more concerned about fiscal matters. So out of curiosity I searched for "fundamental principals of a conservative". In the top 25 posts that came up - all referenced fiscal matters or a belief things needed to return to the Reagan ideal of conservative...not one mention of abortion during that search...

The way I've seen it work amongst most republicans, there is no one issue that they judge candidates by, preferring instead to look at the total package.
Of course, both major parties have their wingnuts with their personal pet issues, but most reasonable folks look at the candidate in total.
