Cheney says "Hogwash" and as expected non-binding is...non binding..

It didn't take the Bush administration long to have a response to some of what has been said and done the past few days:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday dismissed as "hogwash" the suggestion that blunders may have hurt the administration's credibility on Iraq and led members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to question President Bush's plan to send more troops to Baghdad.

In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, conducted a day after Bush delivered his State of the Union address, Cheney was asked to respond to some Republicans in Congress who "are now seriously questioning your credibility, because of the blunders and the failures."

To that, Cheney answered, "Wolf, Wolf, I simply don't accept the premise of your question. I just think it's hogwash."

Cheney said the administration is committed to moving ahead with its plan to send more troops to Baghdad, even if Congress passes a resolution in opposition.

The only way Congress can force this is to not vote to continue funding and in all reality that will never happen because that can only be seen as harming the troops that are there. It would have been better to focus on a plan they can agree with, yet at this point that doesn't seem promising...

Lisa,

Your analysis seems sound, those holding up funding will be seen as not supporting the troops, and that would be a political boo boo, IMO.

They shouldn't/can't be THAT stupid, can they?

I think the non-binding resolution is good because of the symbolism. It shows the public that their representatives are actually able to form opinions of their own and the president that he no longer has party loyalty or fear to use against many Republicans.

There is no way I would support holding up funding though. Bush will get his "augmentation" and then worry about the funding after they are in Iraq.
