Mysterious happenings in the house...

I'm feeling kind of "eh" today, so as I try to get motivated to write my weekly column for the Toledo Free Press, I've been pondering a few mysteries...

Some have happened no matter where I live like why is it whenever I am the one who has to use the bathroom there is no toilet paper on the roll? Obviously the engineering skills required to place a new roll of toilet paper on the holder must be something only I am capable of.

We've already discussed before the nature of the missing sock experience, yet here, something even stranger is disappearing. My steak knives. This is in a way a scary thing because when we moved in I had six. Now I have only two and no one seems to know where they went. Do we have some type of a steak knife thief sneaking in and making off with them? Are the cats plotting something?

Erin freaked out shortly after living here when she found a large butcher type knife in the basement that was not ours that was up on the rafter area above the basement window when she was putting up curtains. We never did figure out why it was there, yet from looking at the knife it looked like it had been there for quite some time, and yes I looked to see if my missing steak knives were there. They weren't.

The doorbell...we have one of those types of doorbells that has a receiver that plugs into an outlet yet on a regular basis the doorbell rings and no one is there...

Why does our one cat roam thru the house meowing late at night? Is he involved in this whole doorbell/missing steak knife thing? It's not as if he is looking for his other cat buddies because he doesn't like any of the other cats in the house. He did this once in a while at our last two places we lived but when he's down in the basement the sound really reverberates thru the ducts.

You know... I've never been able to keep a full set of flatware longer than a couple of months. I've always blamed it on the kids even though they *never* have anything to do with it. I hadn't considered the cats playing a role.... Hmm....

I wasn't even going to get started on the missing spoons...it just seems really strange to have four knives end up missing. Where they ended up is one of those strange things. Only thing I can think of is someone used them to cut a pie or a cheesecake during Thanksgiving and accidently threw them out without me noticing. Or...it was the cats...or some crazy person sneaking in and taking just the steak knives - lol

Lisa,

Did you look for the knives in the dryer vent?

That's where our missing socks go. The somehow manage to bypass the lint screen to make good their escape only to be thwarted by the seven foot climb up the dryer exhaust.

Of course, we only check the vent when we can smell something burning ;-)

Sounds like Twilight Zone material to me. (Insert spooky music) As long as you don't find the knives flying through the air, all should be fine.

On a totally different matter. Nice job of the Phins shutting out the Pats. But *sigh*, in true Jets form, they played like crap and didn't captialized by losing at home to the Bills. Why do I stay on this emotional rollarcoaster?

I didn't get to watch the game -it wasn't on but it sounded pretty awesome.

GOOOOO Miami!!!

I also liked this comment from Excite's Sports:

The last Miami team to shut out New England was the perfect-season Dolphins of 1972.

hehehe

Living in the past won't help Miami in the present. But if it makes you feel better, then go ahead. ;)

Yeah I know that C but my first thought when I read it was wow...wait till C reads that 1972 comment....

I heard yesterday that the Lions' coach says Jon Kitna will still be the starter next year, because the problems the Lions are having aren't his fault. Gee... maybe Harrington coming in with Miami taught someone something?

I'm still a Steelers fan, Lisa, but I'm smiling whenever the Dolphins win. :)

Our one cat goes around meowing sometimes at night, but I think it is more because he is lost than any other unexplainable reasons.

Our doorbell only rings when the Jehovah's Witness lady and her escort show up to ask me if I have found Jesus and to read me Bible quotes.

As far as knives, Franki brought one upstairs to me today in bed. I don't know what her plans were, but she dropped it when she saw I was awake and ran out of the room.

I'm glad you woke up in time, maybe she was mad at the lack of walk time...
