Rove - not defeated...

A very interesting article/interview with Karl Rove is in this week's Time, that sheds some continuing light on the man who is Karl Rove.

I don't like the spin and the manipulation that happens in politics, yet it doesn't seem that aspect is going to fade away anytime soon. Even most of those who hate Rove acknowledge his skill. Some of the interesting parts of the online article by Mike Allen:

"Abramoff, lobbying, Foley and Haggard [the disgraced evangelical leader] added to the general distaste that people have for all things Washington, and it just reached critical mass."

"Iraq mattered," Rove says. "But it was more frustration than it was an explicit call for withdrawal. If this was a get-out-now call for withdrawal, then Lamont would not have been beaten by Lieberman. Iraq does play a role, but not the critical, central role."

Rove, who is Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Adviser to the President, had long been warning in speeches that Democrats suffered defeat in 1994 after ossified thinking and an entitlement mentality took over the party: "What I was trying to say was: What happened to them could happen to us," he told TIME.

The Republican get-out-the-vote program Rove helped invent precluded even deeper losses, he says. "People were talking 35, 40 or more and it didn't happen," he said. "There were a number of elections which were supposed to be close and ended up not being close."

I'd have to agree with the belief that while a large number of the American public is very unhappy with the way the war in Iraq and the larger war on terrorism is going that is not the largest focus. I saw that personally here in Ohio where the economy, our educational system and health care seemed to be more of what people were primarily concerned with. Even what has been referred to as the "culture of corruption" and ethics seemed to weigh more heavily on the minds of Ohio voters. So while most everyone I know wants our troops to come home, I think the message was more of "we don't feel you are listening". It appears that message has at least been partially received despite the small attempt to attribute this to something that has a historical pattern.

I read that time article and as I can't fathom Bush's idiocy I can see that it is still shared.
Roves is an idiot. These guys will never realize Iraq was lost as soon as they ignored advice to the contrary and attacked Iraq. Nothing can stop the breakdown that they knowingly and willingly set in motion.
From 9/11 he has been following a plan. Fighting terrorism was not it. It was just the reason he needed to attack Iraq and start to implement his new middle east and world order. Please read the following and you will understand everything.
As you may remember, Bush was looking for something to happen that would put the country and the world behind what he already had plans to do. 9/11 gave him that something. He has been lying and misleading right from the beginning.
He had plans right from the beginning to establish a new societal, middle east, and world order. That is why it was important to him to whip up a media and public fury which of course, he has done.
He used the excuse of 9/11 to attack Iraq and unsettle the middle east guaranteeing the loss of Afghanistan, Iraq, and the entire middle east. If fighting terrorism was his goal he would have stayed in Afghanistan. He lied to our troops and us from the beginning. He did this so he could further his idea of a new middle east and world order. Of course lying all the while and whipping up as much support and frenzy as he could in the media and minds he controls until he can fully implement his plans..
At this point it behooves him to continue to ignore reality and continue to whip up a frenzy so he can continue staying the course in order to further prosecute his new middle east and world order.
We are all shamelessly being used so Bush can follow his plan for new order. I wrote this 3 years ago but it is more obvious today. Let me know what you think? I won't get any deeper but it gets worse from here.

I don't think it was all Iraq either. Iraq is just another example of the politicians doing what they want and not listening to anyone that dissents. Eventually you either have to take responsibility for things when you don't listen to advice from others or you look out of touch or worse, willfully ignorant.

I like how President Bush said he hadn't succeeded in changing the tone in DC yet. Seems to me that his whole strategy has been to divide and conquer. I wonder if anyone still believes he is concerned with unity and civility.

I think the Dems should attach the minimum wage to a bill called the "I love children" Act and make Bush either sign it or say he hates children.
