It's a tiger balm night...

I know there are all kinds of new pain reliever type creams out there for joint pain, I've tried almost all of them. I used to use Ben Gay but even the supposed scent free wasn't really scent free. A little over a year ago I saw a box of this stuff called "Tiger Balm" and I decided to try it. If you are a fan of the smell of cloves like I am it's the smell that for me hits first, then a much hotter sensation than you get from Ben Gay or Aspercream or any other product I've bought over the years. The downside is it is not a cream it's more of an oinment but for me it works and I think the history of it is pretty cool:

A Hakka herbalist from China by the name of Aw Chu Kin left China and established a medicine shop in Rangoon in the late 1870's where he developed and sold the balm. He had two sons, Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par. After the death of his father, Aw Boon Haw marketed the balm under the brand Tiger Balm. Together with his brother Aw Boon Par, they moved the production to Singapore in the 1920's. Being a marketing genius, Aw Boon Haw made a success of selling Tiger Balm into Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Batavia, Thailand and some cities in China.

Another downside is one of our cats really likes the smell and when I put this on? Is my buddy for quite some time...

I liked to use it on my knees when I would go on RAGBRAI. It worked pretty well for me especially during the initial stages of the daily ride

Lisa is your cat fond of you because of the Tiger Balm, or your natural animal magnetism?

Tiger Balm is the shit, Lisa. just a little bit works great on knotted muscles and back aches. A little tin of that stuff lasted us about 18 months. Keep that on hand. End commercial

Me4 and C - I agree the stuff is totally awesome. Used it again tonight. Too bad Tiger Balm isn't one of the PayPerPost thingies but I'm sure they'll enjoy the free publicity - lol.

Hooda...I think I only attract Puerto Ricans at this point.
