Here we go again:
WASHINGTON — Former Rep. Mark Foley, under FBI investigation for e-mail exchanges with teenage congressional pages, has checked himself into rehabilitation facility for alcoholism treatment and accepts responsibility for his actions, his attorney acknowledged today.
The attorney, David Roth, would not identify the facility, but told the Associated Press in West Palm Beach, Fla., that Foley had checked in over the weekend.
“I strongly believe that I am an alcoholic and have accepted the need for immediate treatment for alcoholism and other behavioral problems,” Foley said in a statement, Roth told the AP.
Trust me people, my family has contained several alcoholics and while they have done some pretty supid things? Not all of this can be blamed on having some sort of substance abuse issue. Yet this is what these people do over and over and over again...
Oh Damn...I was caught doing something wrong..."I couldn't help myself it was (drugs) or (alcohol) or (whatever)".
Patrick Kennedy, Bob Ney and the list could go on and on including celebrities like Mel Gibson have all recently tried to skip taking responsibility for various wrong doings by stating they have a problem and checking into rehab. Maybe for some of them it was their wake up call but for others? You really have to wonder...

Yeah, he and Ney are no doubt playing cards as we speak.
That good old demon alcohol-the Gopper's way of excusing him or herself. Commit your crimes, and head for the clinic when they're exposed.
I guess the good thing is that it appears so far that Foley never did anything to any of them physically. I don't understand why the parents of the one boy wanted this to not be dealt with. I think that's part of the reason why this ended up taking so long to come out. Had it been one of mine, sure I would have wanted their privacy protected but I would have wanted more done than just a simple warning. I also think those who knew about it should have done more even if the parents of the victim didn't want anything done. Once you are aware of something like that then you do have a responsibility to make sure it is handled, or at least I believe you should.
I am also from a long line of alcoholics who have done many a stupid thing. None of them ever hit on teenagers that I know of. They did run into stuff and drive poorly though. They also wasted a lot of money.
I think that those who knew about it should have at least smacked him around for being a jackass.
I agree - but I also wonder why it took so long for this to get out. It's amazing how classified information can be easily leaked yet something like this stays quiet for over a year.
:-)
I think that is kind of odd too. Although I am also impressed that something did remain relatively unknown for so long
True, at least we know they can keep something quiet.
:-)
Not keep it quiet Lisa, waiting to use it to the best advantage...
And, yeah, I'm a cynic ;-)
