So...I didn't get any painting done...

My oldest daughter, Emily is a junior in college. She posts here once in a while but not as often as she used to because between work, school and just finishing up another internship and having a boyfriend her time is pretty tight. Right now she is not working and only taking summer classes and doesn't have any on Friday. We planned to go buy more paint and head over and paint the basement.

We haven't just hung out and had fun in quite some time so after we had fun at Home Depot in the paint department and I showed her the house since she hadn't seen it yet she decided she was hungry. Off to Bob Evans we went for lunch. Then, we were talking about how the house is going to need curtains, the apartment has mini blinds and vertical blinds for the patio door...we both immediately thought SAVERS! (It's kind of like Goodwill for those of you who don't live in this area.)

We both like to browse the strange things - especially the wall of grab bag type assortments where all kinds of things get put in a bag for pretty cheap. So we had fun and we spent some time together which was awesome because I do miss her. I also found some awesome curtains for Miguel and I's bedroom, three full sets of drapes in excellent shape for $7.99. I figured the basement walls will wait for me. Unless of course some magical paint fairy appears...

I started painting our living room and dining room/ kitchen in 2002. I still have some spots that need to be retouched and others that I never started. Hopefully we won't move the entertainment center or computer desk

Ah, heck. It's only June, although it's much more fun to paint when it is 75 outside than when it is 90.

Paint fairies are notoriously famous (dare I say “flameous”) for making hideously gaudy "flam(e)boyant" color choices.

And it usually takes many coats of paint to cover these "choices" up...

Don't even ask. . .

Well, I just got back from the new house and Miguel and I did get the second coat of the masonry sealer on the bad walls and the first coat on the ones that probably didn't need it but being safe so giving them one coat walls. Tomorrow on to the regular paint colors that Erin wanted for the basement which should go alot faster because it's thinner and I should be able to use a roller rather than a brush. Not one time did I crack my head...

Now that Hooda has me afraid of the flameous paint fairy...

Yes, it seems that flameous paint fairies are unreliable. One must have painted my mother's apartment (which she has since re-painted...many times). Just a note to future painters -- black is BAD in paint.

Only finishing 3 walls in every room gives a house character

Not if you saw what the walls look like right now - some sort of plaster effect was sprayed on them and it didn't cover up the pretty ugly coral type color that most of the downstairs appears to be.

I've also discovered how I was wrong about how "neat" that texture coating was. It is a major pain in the butt to paint over. It's smooth but it sticks out just enough that spots get missed with the roller.
