I saw the above linked story so I was curious:
Some students are downloading a ring tone off the Internet that is too high-pitched to be heard by most adults. With it, high schoolers can receive text message alerts on their cell phones without the teacher knowing.
As people age, many develop what's known as aging ear, a loss of the ability to hear higher-frequency sounds.
I can hear it...granted maybe not as loud as teens can but it's an irritating high buzz sound. Quilla, our pup also heard it...I think it irritated her more than it did me. So I may be 46 but I guess my ears are not yet out to pasture...

I'm 65 and I not only heard it, but it hurt my ears. Man! That's irritating!
I want to get one that has the Doppler effect like a siren. That way noone will know where the sound is coming from
Jim has youngin ears too!

Only bad thing about that Scott is if more than one of you had it. Then you wouldn't know which one of you it was.

I've heard those and they are absolutely annoying, but that's my current opinion of cell phones in general.
