Why I want to Bill Peirce to collect enough signatures

and why you should sign one...

Bill Peirce who is the Libertarian candidate for Governor is in the process of collecting the 5,000 signatures necessary for him to be listed on the ballot. This has to be done by May 1st and he is taking the extra precaution of aiming for 10,000 signatures to ensure after all reviews there are enough legitimate signatures as required.

I realize most of you are not Libertarians, I'll be honest and state I don't know if I'm going to vote for Bill Peirce at this point or not either. So why did I email the campaign earlier and offer to help collect needed signatures? It's about having a choice. It's also about having third party representation being encouraged in Ohio.

It's also about what can Bill Peirce bring into the Governor's race as far as creating discussion.

Discussion on topics like this from his website as one example:

Ohio could get rid of its slums, gain new buildings on vacant lots and stop suburban sprawl. It could even save the average homeowner a little money.

The way to change Ohio’s landscape, Peirce says, is to throw out the property-tax system and replace it with another first proposed in 1880.

Or his plan for small businesses:

The first goal of the Peirce administration will be the reduction of the high tax burden in Ohio. This is the most important part of modernizing Ohio’s anti-business taxation system. The elimination of the tangible personal property tax and the estate or death tax are all key components to encouraging growth in the small-business sector of the economy.

The only way these ideas can be really brought to the forefront of the Governor's race is if Bill Peirce is one of the candidates. If he doesn't make it on to the ballot, it will be just between the Democrat and Republican candidate and most of these issues will be swept under the carpet without further discussion.

Bill Peirce may not have all of the answers, but he should be heard.

Yes, you don't even have to vote Libertarian to get Peirce on the ballot.

I sign almost every ballot initiative I see for the same reason - this is the closest we will ever get to true democracy.

If an idea or candidate does not meet the approval of the voters, down they go.

But if we only get two party choices and a handful of big-money ballot initiatives, then we are kidding ourselves that this is a participatory system.

Exactly, all you have to be is a registered voter.

Accordng to the test on Peirce's website I am a libertarian. See Results below:

ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

LIBERTARIAN

Now I don't know for sure if I am or not, but I do agree with Historymike assesment "if we only get two party choices and a handful of big-money ballot initiatives, then we are kidding ourselves that this is a participatory system".

Therefore I will gladly sign the petition to have Peirce but on the ballot if presented with it.

In a surprising turn, I am a centrist. Apparently I sometimes like to interfere and other times I do not. I am a flip flopper

I always test out as Libertarian for that one, there are more detailed political tests.

Mine is:

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 100%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 80%.

Political Compass is alot more detailed for anyone who hasn't taken it yet.

I took the political compass test and it looks like I matched up exactly with the Dalai Lama.

That's where I am always at too, though the first time years ago I was closer to Ghandi.

We are both in good company. I was afraid it would say Bill Clinton

I think that would have made me decide I needed to not be politically involved.

Yep...Dalai Lama here too.

Well obviously only the best people are like the Dalai Lama.

I am going to start a Dalai Lama Party. It will be a truly progressive party.

Will I have to stop working for Rove?

(lol)

I may hire Rove. I need someone with connections to get me good coffee

He's also handy at crushing beer cans.

Please vote for Bill Pierce for US Senator in the GOP primary on May 2, 2006 so that DeWine won't be re-nominated as the GOP nominee for US Senate this fall. www.pierceforsenate.com

...in Ohio.

I'd sign it, but it wouldn't count.

As per the World's Smallest Political Quiz I'm a centrist/Libertarian. Though, I guess it really depends on how you word the questions. According to the Political Compass I'm economically left by 3.00 degrees and socially left by 0.31 degrees, which still makes me a centrist, but not a centrist/Libertarian.

Does this mean I have to drop the whole conservative thing?

"Well obviously only the best people are like the Dalai Lama."

Sadly, I'm not on par with the Dalai Lama.

Well we can mak you an honoray Dalai Lama

You can still consider yourself conservative, because it's how you feel not what a quiz says.

How 'bout this...?

If more "conservatives" were like me, and more "liberals" were like, this whole country would be a more peaceful, well-run nation. Work for you?

Works for me, you can also do what Miguel does, he says "Well I am conservative, compared to you".

I basically do the same thing, I'm liberal when compared to some of my family yet even I am conservative compared to some.

:-)

I walked too far again today, I'm having a hard time figuring how to deal with this ability to be able to walk farther yet not have it hit me later as "ahem...you did too much".

So I'm going to see if I can actually go to sleep.
