I have a problem with this...

No, I am not just picking on Russ Feingold or this particular fund, it's the concept and this that especially bothers me. It's a way to try to suck people in to donating money that in all probability will not come any where near any candidates in their state.

None of those that people are supposed to "vote" on are from Wisconsin. Unless Feingold is getting a special deal advertising on Daily Kos alone costs over $1,500 a week and it's obvious this is not about Democracy this is about launching a pre-presidential move:

One of the most exciting aspects of the Progressive Patriots Fund is how it fits in as part of a larger effort to rebuild the Democratic Party in all 50 states. As part of this 50 state strategy, Senator Feingold continues to travel across the country, listen to others, speak out on important issues, identify candidates for support, and advance a progressive reform agenda. Please take a moment to check out what Russ has been up to recently.

This isn't being done by the Democratic Party which realistically if such a group was to exist would be the one you would think would be "rebuilding" the party.

The site disclaimer says it all:

Authorized and paid for by the Progressive Patriots Fund, Daniel D. Hannula, Superior, WI, Treasurer
PO Box 628008
Middleton, WI 53562

Who was Feingold's Treasurer for his last Senate campaign?

Authorized and paid for by the Feingold Senate Committee, Daniel D. Hannula, Superior, WI, Treasurer
PO Box 620062 Middleton, WI 53562

I guess at least we know that Hannula and I'm assuming his wife support Feingold, infact according to Open Secrets that is the only person they have donated to for 2004 thru 2006:

I don't really like Feingold. He may have some good ideas, but I think he is more opportunist than heroic figure. I may be wrong, but I just have a bad feeling about him.

I feel the exact same way, just like I feel the whole censure thing was nothing but a ploy and one that could very well backfire on him. I'm also really tired of these career politicians messing with races in other States, if any outside help should come financially it should be from a real Democratic organization not one ran by the same people as his Senate campaign.

I agree. The censure attempt had the same feel as the SD abortion bill. The risks are far greater than the gains and they could both end up looking like mere stunts in the end

I agree, I'm tired of stunts.

He's traveling to all fifty states, while he's still getting paid to "serve" Wisconsin. That pretty much says it all for me. I've heard Feingold say one thing, and do something else far too often to trust him now.

Stephanie, I thought of you when I was researching this. It's obvious he's not working for the citizens of WI.

Did you find the webpage off my site?

Do any of them actually work for their states? How much money comes from outside? I think Chuck Grassley received money from the oil industry. I lived in Iowa for 24 years and never saw a working oil rig

I use open secrets alot, but what you wrote earlier on him made me decide this really bothered me when I saw the ad for his "progressive patriots" fund on Kos luring people in to "vote".

me4,

"Do any of them actually work for their states?"

Well, I don't know about "any of them," but them NOT working for their own state happens so frequently that people hardly blink an eye over it. I bring it up and people tend to respond with a "well, duh!" as if I have no right to be disgruntled that my "representative" pays more attention to his presidential bid than his constituents.

"How much money comes from outside?"

WAY, way too much! That's a "if I could change one thing" kind of issue for me. If political contributions are the equivalent to free speech, then why do people outside a representatives area get to sway our elections with their "speech?"

Lisa, I asked because I linked to this in the Peek-a-boo Feingold post. It actually had an image of Feingold playing peek-a-boo with a computer. It was bizarre!

As per why Feingold isn't going through the DNC for this, my guess is that he intends to run for president whether he's got DNC backing or not. He's a great showman and a definite rouge; that would suit his pattern.

It's even come to the blogosphere, an Ohio Blog wanting Russ for President in 2008. Of course the typical requests for polls to be "freeped" so that it's not a true indication of support, just how many people you can solicit votes from which is why I have no, zip, zero, faith in any polls that are internet based. Even those that claim they prevent mulitiple votes are full of it because it's possible to manipulate the results of these things. Yet time after time the media gives attention to these polls full well knowing that they aren't accurate.

Feingold? *sheesh!* The guy is one of two demonstrably ANTI-free speech people I'd not only never vote for for anything, but (along with his major partner in crime, McCain) would actively campaign against, almost no matter WHO was running against him. For anything. If garbage collector was an elected position and Feingold were running in my "garbage district" *heh*, I'd move mountains of trash to keep him outa the job. Anything he touched would turn to toxic waste...

Thanks Paul, I realize other candidates are doing this too, John Edwards with his One America appears to be doing something similar as far as solicting funds that will be given to other Democrats outside of his state.

Granted it's early yet and I don't put alot of faith into polls anyway but abc released their "invisible candidate" list

Doesn't look good at this point for Russ fan's but I was surprised to see John Edwards coming in as 2 in several categories.
