Rocked! Evidently alot of us watched it because the nbc.com website where you are supposed to vote on who "won" the debate? Having problems keeping up with the number of visitors.
I can't help wishing that there were real politicians that were close to the actors.
:-)
UPDATE: Alot of blogs talked about this debate, for the one of the best sources in tracking this?
West Wing News Blog: Comments on and Recaps of "West Wing" Live Debate

I agree, Lisa. But art does not copy life all the time. I saw the model warriors of two ideals. In my opinion, the Alan Alda character won the debate, because the ideas that character said was closer to my ideas than the Jimmy Smits character's.
In the end, I know that the Smits character will win the election becuase one, Hollywood writers write to make the Democrats look better than Republicans, and two, the writers have already written three main characters from the Barlet Admin (Leo, Josh, and Donna) into the Santos camp. (I bet you all thought I didn't know the new characters names. Ha Ha!)
It sadden me a little to see that the best presidental debate in recent years had to be written by storytellers and not by real candidates. The vice presidental debates for the 1992 elections would have been funny if the American people didn't have the choice of candidates before them that year. Gore and Quayle saying that their running mate could beat up the other running mate, while Perot's joke of a choice for VP drolled, walked absent mindedly, and ask where the buffet and bathroom were. I would gladly have voted for one of the two characters on The West Wing than the fools that do run for office.
In NJ, we have to vote for frick or frack for Gov. Both I don't trust. NJ will lose no matter who wins on Tuesday. I will vote for the Republican. Because the Democrat did nothing for NJ when he was in the Senate (and he can't wait for his term to end before moving on to something else. Lack of commitment I say.) Plus the last Democrat in NJ got caught in a sex scandel and only admitted to being gay after being caught. At least he quit before making NJ more of a joke.
Ok, I'll stop the rant. As for the show, I liked it. It showed that open debate is still possible and should be the rule and not the exception. If that platform was the norm in the last election, Bozo Bush wouldn't be in office and the Democrats would have picked a better candidate than then Mr. "I can't decide which rich wife to stay married to" Kerry.
In other news, my Jets still suck, but a little less than usual. At least they found out that they have a young healthy QB that can play the game to win. Hopefully Brooks will be the QB for the rest of the year.
If so, it may be another AFC East Championship while be tied with two other teams. We can always hope and pray. ;)
I agree with you that "Alan Alda" won the debate. I also think you might be right about Jimmy Smits being the one who "wins" too though they could throw a twist in there.
I agree it is disappointing that a tv show would provide candidates that appeal more to us.
However, it was a very awesome show and gives a small glimmer of hope that maybe someday? Art will copy life.

ps...don't feel bad, look how the Dolphins did today too...
Actors think that they're politicians and politicians act.
In my mind there is no difference.
I am a recovering West Wing addict...
For the same reason, I do not watch Commander-in-Chief.
I've never watched Commander in Chief. It took me a while to get used to the idea of West Wing without Martin Sheen, and I'm still not sure how it will be once we find out who "wins".
:-)
I think Alan Alda won, but only because he is a more experienced actor...
An actor may be able to campaign well, but look at what happened in California. I don't think HE'll be back.
Last time I checked the nbc site they were saying Santos won as far as the web poll went, by over 70%
:-)
I like the idea of confrontational debates and there were some good parts, but overall I was disappointed. It was a good show, but they attacked each other with talking points.
That's true me4 but I would really like to see debates like that one rather than the way they are sooo rule oriented. Of course most candidates would never agree to it. Unless we start demanding it. I can see it now...WE WANT DEBATES LIKE ON TV!!!
:-)
I am a proponent of Lincoln-Douglas style debates. Put the candidates out there in a crowd and let them go at it.
