I remember reading about this story when it first came out, Silvia Johnson of Golden, Colorado who was arrested then pled guilty to providing alcohol to minors as well as having sex with several of them at parties. The media has listed her as the "cool mom".
First off it's stupid to call her the "Cool Mom", what she did was not cool. You'd think a smart person after pleading guilty to two misdemeanors and nine felonies and facing up to 58 years in prison you'd be careful with your behavior. Not Mrs. Johnson, her sentencing was delayed as CNN mentions because of an accident "where she was not the driver". For some reason CNN does not mention:
Silvia Johnson, 41, was the only adult and licensed driver in a car that crashed Sunday at 5:30 p.m. on Interstate 70 near Tomah Road, south of Castle Rock, but she wasn't the one driving, the Colorado State Patrol said. A 2005 Jeep Liberty was being driven by a 14-year-old girl when it attempted to change lanes before losing control. The vehicle swerved off the Interstate and then rolled end over end, the CSP said.
An 11-year-old boy who was ejected from the vehicle was airlifted to Swedish, and Johnson was also transported to Swedish. Both were in serious condition.
Two 14-year-old girls, including the driver, and a 12-year-old boy were transported to Skyridge. One of the 14-year-old girls and the 12-year-old boy were in serious condition. The 14-year-old driver has minor injuries.
So, you know as a parent this woman was charged/accused of providing alcohol and drugs to minors and having sex with them and you let your kids hang out with her? What's going on in Golden, Colorado? Are there that many parents that don't pay the slightest attention to where their children are and what they are doing?
Johnson was sentenced to 30 years in prison, in addition to the above charges, she also was sentenced for additional charges of third-degree assault, violation of a restraining order and harassment for unrelated cases involving her husband and children. (She broke her husband's nose and kept calling one of the minor boys she had sex with even after being told she was supposed to have no contact with any of the victims. As well as harrassing her own children.)
It may sound like a harsh sentence (or at least that's the way CNN is appearing to present this) but from just the original charges it was a maxium of 58 years which did not include the assault of her husband, the violation of the restraining order and the harrassment charges. Given all of the charges she was lucky to get 30 years.
Personally I think every single one of these parents, especially the last bunch who let their children end up in a car with this woman should at a minimum have to attend some type of parenting class. When people think I'm too strict because I make sure I know the parents before my kids hang out at someone's house? It's people like Mrs. Johnson that are out there I'm watching out for.

Oh boy and here's another classic:
A Gainesville woman has been charged with child molestation after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.
Members of the boy's family said 37-year-old Lynnette Clark is pregnant with the boy's child and that they were married Tuesday in Dawson County. Judy Hayles, the boy's grandmother, said she received a notice of the marriage from Dawson County because she is the boy's guardian.
Clark was arrested Wednesday and brought to the Hall County Detention Center.
Hayles said the relationship had been going on for nearly two years. She said her grandson and Clark's teenage son had been close friends and that he spent many weekends at Clark's home.
Now Hayles said she is working to end the marriage.
"This marriage is going to be terminated," she said.
Georgia law provides an exemption to age requirements for marriage when the female applicant is pregnant.
(Gee Grandma you knew the relationship was going on for two years and now that they are married you are going to do something?)
It's the water from the brewery. The river looks nice around the place because they clean it up there, but downstream fish walk and trees can grab people.
We had a girl's mom when I was growing up who did the same thing. She staisfied many boy's dreams of sleeping with a hot mother and daughter at the same time before the boys even had those dreams. It was shocking when her daughter was pregnant right out of high school
I never had parents allow it when I was growing up but we had quite a few parents that were not home - some of this is normal kid behavior as far as seeing what they can get away with. I've ran into that with mine at times. They tell you the parents will be home and then when you say okay I need to talk to the parent...magically the story changes...Sometimes like with these two situations it goes way beyond what is necessary. You can't always watch them but some of these parents could do a heck of alot better job.
I went to Catholic school though where the girls start having sex in 4th grade and the church basement is as good a place as any for romantic interludes
I went to a public school where the basement looked like a place where Freddy would have hung out.
:-)
You know how sometimes when you flick a burned out light bulb with your finger, it'll come back on sometimes?
Well, it dosen't work the same with dim people like in those two stories.
Maybe if someone flicked them a litttle harder...
me4,
4th grade???
Sounds to me like a 4th grade boy's fantasy ;-)
You have to pass a test to drive a car, but any dumbass can become a parent. Maybe this country should have parenting classes for those who want to be parents or going to be parents. Then they take a test and if they pass, then they get all the tax incentatives that come with having kids. If not, then they must pay the highest tax rate in the land. If that were in effect, you would see alot more people being better parents. It's a damn shame that we have to bribe people to be decent people.
The other parents in CO should lose all their children and go to jail for one year for being so fucking naive. I don't trust my kids. I love them to death and I'll do right by them, but I don't trust them. Even at 7 and 10 they lie. And it's the easy ones that they get caught in. The woman with the drunken orgies should just be shot. A little right winged, but at least she wouldn't be around anymore kids.
As for the boy and woman in GA. Well, it's GA. What else do you expect.
HT and me4 agree that this is sick, but show they male side when they say that would be cool if it were them. I think it would have been cool to if it was me. In conclusion, men are just plain scumbags, but we are happy.
Okay, I am the sole female on this topic at this point, but I can honestly say with the exception of one really hot student teacher when I was in High School I never was interested in people that much older than me. As a freshman dating a guy that was a senior was about as old as I went. One of my girlfriend's dad used to try to flirt with us and I thought it was gross.
:-)
I wish it was a fantasy, but at the time I was thinking of baseball cards and Atari.
cyberseaer,
"HT and me4 agree that this is sick, but show they male side when they say that would be cool if it were them."
Clearly you misunderstood or misread what I wrote.
1. I haven't been a 4th grade boy in ~50 years.
2. Sex with young children is not my idea of a fantasy.
3. A 4th grade boy might dream or fantasize about sex with a girl his own age, but likely would lust after older women, say 15 or 16 year-olds.
Either way, I do NOT resemble that remark.
HT, I didn't mean that you thought it was cool at your age today. I meant that if you were a younger boy having sex with an older women, that would be cool. If I was 12 having sex with a 25 or older women, I would think that was cool. But being in my mid thirties and a parent, the thought makes me sick. That's what I meant. I didn't mean to say you are a dirty old man. That was the furtherest thing on my mind when I commented. I am sorry that we had a communcation snafu on this and hopefully we can move on from this point with respect and class.
Amen and Amen
