Thanks to Steve at the Distance I read the above linked article at Salon. Trust me, this one is well worth sitting thru the ad to get a day pass to read.
It is about Italia Federici the head of the Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy and her testimony about Abramoff.
I almost had to laugh when I got to this part of the article:
"When my friends reach out to me and ask me to help them with things, I never turn around and say why don't you just do it yourself," Federici said, adding that she paid for her own cellphone to facilitate this process. "
Then this:
"We are also going to do something mean to Senator John Kerry," Federici wrote Abramoff, a few days before the ad ran. She then described a video CREA had packaged that showed Sen. Kerry leaving an Earth Day celebration and stepping into a gas-guzzling sports utility vehicle. She sent the video to at least two television programs on the Fox News Network, "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Hannity and Colmes." "I am letting EVERYONE know that you are the only reason we have the funding to do this," she gushed to Abramoff in the same e-mail.
Okay guys, stop worrying about the $500,000 or any of the things she did for Abramoff, she paid for her own cell phone. She's got to be telling the truth. /snark...

Sweet. I also pay for my own cell phone. I am going to go break some laws right now. When I go to court, I will just show the judge my cell phone bill
Good call, me4. I have never thought of my cellphone as a sort of all-purpose shield to protect me from any legal trouble I might find myself in.
Except for Bank robbing, we all know cellphones didn't help the "cell phone bank robber"..she got caught.

Stupid criminal tricks:
Cell phone carriers have reams of very accurate records. They can bring up traffic records from any site or cluster of sites in any area.
All it took was time to go through the records.
Fair warning to budding criminals out there...
Oh, crap...
I've been increasingly using my cell phone for work, and just asked my boss to pick up the tab for it...
I'd better not commit any crimes!
Brad, all you would have to do is get some of that spray I read about on your blog this a.m.
You could create a quick escape.
:-)
Everyone knows you don't use your cell phone during the crime. You ahev someone else use it from a different location so that you can make up an alibi. At least, that is what I have heard
