An affidavit filed in April with the U.S. District Court in Toledo shows that Betty Shultz, a Toledo city councilman; Maggie Thurber, a Lucas County commissioner, and Donna Owens, a member of the Ohio Industrial Commission, took checks from Mr. Noe before writing their own to the Bush-Cheney campaign.
Betty Shultz should have never ran for City Council given this, and now that it has been made public? Should resign immediately. Maggie Thurber might want to figure out what she is going to do about this rather than worry about how Frank Szollosi lists links on his blog.
The Toledo Blade article is linked above.
Next decision would be who to replace her with...I'd suggest a Republican (Dave) though I'm sure that won't happen.

Lisa,
I can't tell you how much your moral support meant to me during the campaign. Thanks.
Re: Ms. Thurber, thanks for the confidence in suggesting I replace her. It is certainly a question that should be answered for the good of the county and our party. It is not my decision to make, though I have opinions. I will be working to reform our party, advance changes in the city charter and defend my seat on the GOP State Central Committee in May.
I have my hands full!!
You are the best!
Dave
No one should resign because of an accusation.
Innocent until proven guilty, as I recall.
Find them guilty first and then boot them.
It's the American way!
Having said that, these people aren't dumb; stupid maybe, but not dumb.
What were they thinking???
Dave, I believe you would and still will make a huge difference for Ohio.
:-)
HT, normally I would agree with you, however none of these people are going to be tried. They know if they took money from Noe or not and should do the right thing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if you get a check from Noe, cash it and then write another check? You were a conduit...
I also really wonder why this could not have been released before the election....
BING! BING! BING!
Lisa nails the $64 thousand question.
They knew this information before the election, but sat on it. Would knowing that Betty Schultz was a conduit have made a 1,000 to 2,000 vote difference?
Dave Schulz trailed her by 12,000, so it might be a pipe dream to think that he would have leap-frogged past her, but I am sure that a Bob Vasquez or a Karen Shanahan might have squeaked past her if this information was released.
I think that this is reprehensible, just like the Ohio Ethics Commission dragging its feet on McCloskey's campaign violations until after the election.
I'd like to think it would have made a difference but anyone that was following this story had a pretty good idea that Betty was involved. I don't know anyone that will admit to voting for her to ask them.
:-)
Lisa,
"I also really wonder why this could not have been released before the election...."
Let me guess; partisan politics as usual?
As for trials, if they were granted immunity, they should resign.
But, that would be a personal decision of each of the so-called conduits.
Their actions (read as, inaction) subsequent to this would be very telling indeed.
I trust that they will do the right thing... SNORK!
(I couldn't even hold that back the editorializing until I was done with that one...)
Yeah, HT, I'm sure right now at this very moment both Betty and Maggie are writing up their letters of apology and resignation....
WAIT!!! Is that a pig with wings I see?
:-)
