I was reading Northwest Ohio net, and spotted this article written by Paul Miller that is linked above.
He suggests a commission similar to BRAC to eliminate some of the pork projects that most of us do agree are not only not necessary but prevent fiscal responsibility and availablity of funds that could be spent on programs that are really needed.
Paul updated that Senator Brownback had suggested this back in 2003, but it obviously has not been supported by Congress. The Commission on the Accountability and Review of Federal Agencies (CARFA), I checked the Congressional Record, the bill (S.1668) was introduced September 26, 2003, last action was taken on May 6, 2004.

(Looks like it is still in Committee)
Hello? Senators? Now might be a good time, actually considering the last pork laden bill highway bill that went thru? Hello? Anyone over there listening?

That highway bill had no chance of passing, save for the attached pork.
You don't really expect the authors of all of that pork to support letting others "review" it do you?
Line item veto,
Line item veto,
Line item veto,
Line item veto,
Line item veto.
That (the line item veto) is a good start, assuming that someone with a spine will USE it).
I used to be convinced that President Bush wouldn't hesitate to use it; now, I'm not as sure...
