In an attempt to make everything "easier" Ohio has decided to switch to a debit card system where the funds are deposited to a card and no more paper checks would be necessary.
Only one problem, with paper checks or even electronic deposit into a checking or savings account there was a paper record. With the new debit card system they do not send you any type of a statement. You can call and get information from an 800 number and speak with a customer service rep but there is no paper record to track payments, nor will the customer service reps from the card company (who are not State Employees from my understanding) send you a paper record, you are told to call Child Support.
I just got done talking with a supervisor who tried to tell me that child support was paid in advance (bullshit number one) and that more payments were made than actually show (bullshit number two). She finally did get the simple logic of what I was saying and finally admitted that there were payments missing. Where are they? Who knows but she's going to get right on that. Sure I believe that, I also believe I will see pigs fly and little leprachauns appearing to help me with my housework.
I've written to every official I know about the lack of paper documentation for those of us receiving child support. Even if it were only done quarterly it would be a record for us rather than putting our trust in a system that has already demonstrated it is messed up. No response yet from anyone on this issue. The irony here is the state makes such a huge deal about dead beat parents when the state has delayed and withheld money yet when it is them that owes money to children of custodial parents we are supposed to be quiet and call back in a few days or go on line. Sure....and get this message:
Notice: The system you are trying to access is down for maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience and ask that you please try back later.

This is why I will moved to Florida if I should get a divorce. I hear that the state will not enforced dead beat dads to pay support. That's what I hear. If that doesn't work, there's always Brazil. Though that might not work. 1.) My Spanish sucks and 2.) My wife would find me and kill me. So, it is best for me to stay married. :)
Hope the Ohioian red tape gets cut for you real soon. Though I have notice that sarcasm doesn't work with state employees. ;)
Ohio never eliminates red tape it creates more red tape.
The old system worked so well and it was reliable. Not only is this new system not reliable? But it takes forever to fix anything.
However...I will not give up and you are right C, most of them have no appreciation for sarcasm.
:-)
Three thoughts:
1. At work, we have a saying; If it ain't broke, don't FIX it.
2. This started running through my head for some strange reason...
To dream the impossible dream
to fight the unbeatable foe,
To bear with unbearable sorrow
to run where the brave dare not go.
To right the unrightable wrong,
to love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary,
to reach the unreachable star!
This is my quest, to follow that star,
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far;
To fight for the right
without question or pause
To be willing to march into hell
for a heavenly cause!
And I know, if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
that my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest.
And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable stars.
And,
3. Got windmills?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic, just trying to mentally prepare you for the battle you are about to take on.
I truly feel for you :-(
You know, I know a guy, that for 50 bucks...
However, that wouldn't really solve your problem, just give you a feeling of satisfaction...
lol HT, I know that windmill feeling, this is not my first battle at tilting windmills nor probably my last.
:-)
