The other day I posted the link to river's blog Baghdad Burning...today USA Today has an article on Iraqi reaction to President Bush's speech. River has also updated and gives her opinion on President Bush's speech.

This confirms river's statements on the current situation in Baghdad prior to the war and after the war compared to now.
Before the U.S.-led invasion, residents of Baghdad had about 20 hours of electricity a day. Today, they get about 9.4 hours a day, usually broken into two-hour chunks. A year ago, they were getting an average of 10 hours a day. There are also frequent fuel and drinking water shortages, and only 37% of the population has a working sewage system.
If basic services are not restored and continue to degrade? How can we expect anything to get better? It's going to take more than killing "terrorists" to enable us to be able to bring our troops home.

I like reading Baghdad Burning. This may be the most powerful staement form the piece though:
"Don’t Americans realize that ‘abroad’ is a country full of people- men, women and children who are dying hourly? ‘Abroad’ is home for millions of us. It’s the place we were raised and the place we hope to raise our children- your field of war and terror."
I do too, the mom in me starts to worry when she hasn't posted for awhile.
