Voter ID...the haves vs the have nots....

This was the basic jist of the excite poll question of the day and somedays there it's just not worth posting on....like today...

The article

I have mixed emotions about this one. My libertarian side is against national ID's and I feel this is one step closer to a national tracking system. I jokingly suggested earlier on excite why don't they just microchip us and get it over with. For someone who wants to vote more than once the ability to buy or self create a fake photo id is pretty darn easy. I did some basic research and found several sites more than happy to provide me with an Ohio Driver's License "novelty" ID that looks and supposedly scans correctly for under 100.00. There were also several sites that were more than happy to provide instructions on how to make your own. So for those that really wanted to flaunt the system? This is a waste of legislation.

What it does that is troubling though is picks a group of people that in all probability are not participating in voter fraud to begin with and in most cases would not vote Republican. Ironically it appears most of the legislation concerning this issue is also being promoted by....Republicans.....

While some of the states have alternate plans for those without ID's the idea of having to sign a document that states you are "too poor" to get an ID could be rather humilating for some people, especially since this would not be done in private so I could see where it would discourage some from voting.

Ultimately I guess the real question is how much voter fraud is really going on? Supposedly from all of these states it's not an issue, so if it's not an issue and the last two presidential elections were so "fraudless" why do we need this anyway?

Most of the comments I read today were pretty much as expected, well if they can't bother to get an ID maybe they shouldn't vote, etc. etc. While voting is of course not a guaranteed right, do we really want to allow one political party to determine who can vote? Especially if there is no problem with fraud...now if there really is a problem with fraud? Maybe someone should start talking......
