Why Rick Santorum Scares me

It's not just his "infamous" comments about homosexuals. To be honest I'd rather see him continue on with that not because I support it but because it lets people know exactly what his agenda is so there's no hiding it. If he manages to loose his senate race in 2006 I actually see him as more of a threat as a presidential candidate than if he somehow wins. Last poll shows Casey as ahead but it's too early to tell. If Santorum does loose he'll have time, and we already know how hard it is for a standing Senator to win a presidential election.

We have right now a Whitehouse that isn't honest. We have a President that claims a certain amoung of moral standards yet has no problem violating them. Santorum is another one of these. In many ways I feel he would be even worse of a president when it comes to the ability to work with even Republicans that do not agree with him. He twists things, he is quite the master of it, much better than George Bush has ever been when it comes to linguistic skills. Anyone who read or heard his exchange with Senator Boxer during the partial birth abortion discussions (just to give one example) knows how this man will twist words to get his agenda thru. Truth is not something that's important if he wins.

Boxer VS Santorum

Santorum gives us some clues into his inability to "practice what he preaches".

In 1990 he used the fact that the incumbent did not live in PA as a "real" resident as part of his main campaign theme. Once elected he has done exactly the same, and alot of dishonesty has resulted from this. He and his wife still use their Penn Hill address for voting registration even though they do not live there, his wife's niece is renting the two bedroom home from them.

For someone who claims to be honest, Santorum owed a tax lien on this property and was "unaware" of it until the local newspaper pointed it out. Then Santorum had no problem using the Penn Hill address to sign his children up for a cyber school for Penn Hill taxpayers to foot the over 100,000 bill. He knew full well during this time period that his children resided at their VA address, and he also knew that VA would not pay for his children to be homeschooled in the same manner. So for the bargan basement deal of around 2,000 in property taxes each year to Penn Hill he got an almost 36,000 "bonus" for using the Penn Hill address. Some feel this is theft by deception, I'd tend to agree. Once the residency was questioned again in the local media and it was announced the School District was going to question this? Did Santorum fight this? No, he withdrew his children and stated he would have them homeschooled without the cyber school before the investigation began.

From how I understand it, when you rent out a home in Penn Hills you have to have an occupancy permit. This was not done until recently and we know from voting records that Mrs. Santorum's niece has lived in the Penn Hill home from at least 2000 until now. Until the local paper pointed this out nothing was done.

Santorum is one of President Bush's largest supporters on the personal plan aspect of Social Security. Recently he was using a power point presentation to "sell" this plan at local town meetings for voters. The fact that the plan presented misleading information is bad enough, however it was discovered that Santorum allowed the SSA logo to be displayed frequently thru out the power point presentation giving the impression to those present that this was created by SSA. Which it was not. When reporters pointed this out Santorum's response was to stop using the power point presentation and to have it removed from his website.

He's proven just with these few situations that he will do whatever he wants and not stop unless he is caught. I'm not suggesting that he be allowed to win in 2006, however I think it is very important that we stay informed. That we do whatever is necessary to make sure that the rest of America knows what kind of things Senator Santorum is capable of.
