Neglecting my blog...

I've been a bad blogger - lol. I am working on two stories that involve alot of research but I've also been working on finishing the publication of my first book. Yes it's being done thru Cafe Press hence the above link to "my" store. It's been an adventure. The book was finished three years ago and I went thru the process of finding someone to publish it. Not for the weak spirited or for those without deep pockets. So not having deep pockets it sat until I discovered that Cafe Press would publish it. Now it's done and ready for sale. I've actually sold a few copies (thanks to those who love me).

I have learned alot not just from the historical research for the book but about the many scams out there to try to profit from the dream some of us have of being published. Take getting an ISBN number for example. If you want to sell your book at a retail location you're told you need one. Trying to find out how to get one is interesting, there are lots of places out there willing to "assist" you and all they want is half of the profits from your book or some ridiculous figure. The reality is it costs $125.00 to get the number for the ISBN then you have to find someone to print out the bar code. Same with a copyright, all kinds of lawyers and services out there will "help" you for hundreds of dollars when all you have to do is go to the government site, download the form, fill it out and send them their fee. In the case of a literary work only $30.00.

If it is your dream to write a book? Do your homework and beware....there are those out there that would love to profit from you providing you with not much more than you can do on your own for alot less.
