Miers doesn't want to be a burden

Well here we go, as predicted by some Miers would withdrawl. Now that the token attempt to nominate a woman has happened?

Speculation again as to who will be the next one up?

More later as this progresses.

CNN is linked above, this from the Washington Post the President states:

"It is clear that senators would not be satisfied until they gained access to internal documents concerning advice provided during her tenure at the White House -- disclosures that would undermine a president's ability to receive candid counsel," Bush said. "Harriet Miers' decision demonstrates her deep respect for this essential aspect of the constitutional separation of powers -- and confirms my deep respect and admiration for her."

Rather than write a new post...this comment is interesting..true as far as the majority of Americans go but man I hate these unnamed sources. I'd love to know who really said this:

A House Republican strategist expressed a decided lack of concern about the impact of Miers's withdrawal on the the party's strength heading into the 2006 elections. "Who cares?" said the source. "Two months from now whoever the next nominee is is going to be sitting on the court. This stuff is happening 13 months from the election."

I agree with unnamed person. The timing couldn't be better because if indictments occur, Miers will be an old story. Now Bush can nominate a truly crazy person and we can have a confirmation war because it was conservatives that killed Miers.

I don't think (or at least I hope) that it will be a crazy person, but I'd almost bet it's not going to be a woman.

Harriet played the good little soldier as she was supposed to.

What was unexpected was the biting and scratching from within.

Let's hope that the next candidate can be accused of independant and rational thought by both sides.

(But, I wouldn't bet on it...)

Late breaking news:
Apparently Sandra Day O'Connor has come out in favor of quotas...

I wonder where she got THAT idea???
