We've heard quite a bit about Americans becoming fatter as a nation, some of that has been stated could be related to the economy as far as affordable fresh produce. While I don't discount the importance of a healthy diet, I also think for some people it's more than just their caloric intake. I came across a quote by a Dr. Martin Seligman, who is believed by many to be an authority on obesity, who said: "Nineteen out of twenty studies show that obese people consume no more calories each day than non-obese people. In one remarkable experiment, a group of very obese people dieted down to only 60 percent overweight and stayed there. They needed one hundred fewer calories a day to stay at 60 percent overweight than normal people needed to stay at a normal weight."
This is why many are turning to surgical procedures to help them with their weight loss and while many products out there like alli have appeared in the market place. It's because some have learned first hand that for them, it requires more than just a diet and at times increase exercise.

I think a lot of American's weight gain might have to do with some of the unnatural chemicals that are in the food that we consume.
I don't disagree, and fructose corn syrup, it's in so many things and can cause weight gain.
One thing to keep in mind is that with all the pushups you are probably adding a bit of muscle as you are losing fat so that is probably contributing to the ’small’ weight loss.
And I agree with everyone else, taking 3 pounds off while traveling is GOOD it is just about impossible for me to not gain weight while traveling and I would more than happy to come one with a 3 pound loss. Up to me weight loss pills are the best way to loss weight.
