US Plans to attack Iran not exactly "covert"

I couldn't help thinking when reading this:

The Bush administration has launched a "significant escalation" of covert operations in Iran, sending U.S. commandos to spy on the country's nuclear facilities and undermine the Islamic republic's government, journalist Seymour Hersh said Sunday.

If that's true? It's not exactly covert anymore and now? Iran knows about it...That said, when you read the actual New Yorker piece there's even more to be disturbed about, who it is being said our government is working with:

The Administration may have been willing to rely on dissident organizations in Iran even when there was reason to believe that the groups had operated against American interests in the past. The use of Baluchi elements, for example, is problematic, Robert Baer, a former C.I.A. clandestine officer who worked for nearly two decades in South Asia and the Middle East, told me. “The Baluchis are Sunni fundamentalists who hate the regime in Tehran, but you can also describe them as Al Qaeda,” Baer told me. “These are guys who cut off the heads of nonbelievers—in this case, it’s Shiite Iranians. The irony is that we’re once again working with Sunni fundamentalists, just as we did in Afghanistan in the nineteen-eighties.” Ramzi Yousef, who was convicted for his role in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is considered one of the leading planners of the September 11th attacks, are Baluchi Sunni fundamentalists.

One of the most active and violent anti-regime groups in Iran today is the Jundallah, also known as the Iranian People’s Resistance Movement, which describes itself as a resistance force fighting for the rights of Sunnis in Iran. “This is a vicious Salafi organization whose followers attended the same madrassas as the Taliban and Pakistani extremists,” Nasr told me. “They are suspected of having links to Al Qaeda and they are also thought to be tied to the drug culture.” The Jundallah took responsibility for the bombing of a busload of Revolutionary Guard soldiers in February, 2007. At least eleven Guard members were killed. According to Baer and to press reports, the Jundallah is among the groups in Iran that are benefitting from U.S. support.

The C.I.A. and Special Operations communities also have long-standing ties to two other dissident groups in Iran: the Mujahideen-e-Khalq, known in the West as the M.E.K., and a Kurdish separatist group, the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan, or PJAK.

typical bush policy: shoot and ask questions later. you would figure that after 7 3/4 years of failed policy, bush would quietly fade into retirement with his equally unaccomplished political father H. Bush.

If you read the 7 page New Yorker article and discover how the Democrats in Congress are not only not stopping this but allowing this to be funded, you'll have even more questions.

Typical Bush Policy? Shoot and ask questions later. isnt that what you're doing. You arent well informed on the situation. Typical Liberal response!!
ITS BUSH'S FAULT for everything. You forgot to say No more war for oil. It is ok to have a strong opinion as long as you know facts to back it up.
I ask what do you know of Iran? would you be comfortable with Iran having nuclear weapons? I wouldnt and i dont live in a big city ethier.
It is ok to dislike george bush but, he was voted in twice. Im guessing you know some people that voted for him both times as well.
The press is equally responible for the deaths of soilders with printing crap like this.

Anonymous #2, you raise a valid point about "covert" information being written about.

It's not as if Iran is going to not hear about it now and use this type of reporting to their advantage to show that the US is planning to attack them. As well as pointing out which groups Iran needs to focus on that are working with the US.

Those of us "in the know", are laughing at these reports. Absolute nonsense.

Well, let's hope then Anon #3 that Iran is laughing too.

The guy from the New Yorker that is pushing this story is actually a threat to our national security. As to this claim. We've been operating in many countries covertly over the years including Iran. No new news to see.

As to Bush i was just thinking about our constitution. For the people, by the people. Our president is a nut job and his last day in office can't come soon enough. He doesn't reflect our country or our people.

Hersh as been warning of an attack against Iran every year since Bush got elected. I suppose he's praying it gets done before Bush leaves office, see Seymour Hersh is an Idiot
