Many times there were things I wanted to write that I did not because I allowed myself to be cowed, to feel as if dealing with the aftermath of sharing what I felt just wasn't worth it. It was not just Hillary Clinton that was the issue for me, I did not think she was the best candidate, but I felt she was the better of the two that was left.
It's so much a larger issue than that though, through the course of this campaign seeing the media bias, the way people supposedly wanting the same things treat each other and the power games not designed to benefit us but those in power was impossible to ignore.
For so many women the reason a Clinton win was important was because of the very reality of where we exist today. Look around you, women control 52% of the vote, yet how many are in office? How many are in Congress, how many are Judges, how many are Governors, how many are state legislators, Mayors, the list could continue. The media is controlled by men we say, the government is controlled by men we say, but we outnumber them...
Misogyny we rail against, then we turn around and give up and once again we allow ourselves to be beaten. Not because of men but because of ourselves. Of course it's easier to blame men but we are to blame because before Clinton, during Clinton and after Clinton; we as women don't support women candidates. The best candidate is not always going to be a woman, however time after time there is no woman who even runs for there to be a choice. We treat other women worse than men treat us and we are stupid enough to not realize they know this? Men have known this about us for eons, and we have learned very little from the past. From the superficial way women are treated differently than men to the way women are still treated as sex objects, to the way women do not receive equal pay for an equal job, we have the power to change all of that.
Imagine what would happen if women stopped supporting media sources that were controlled by men and exhibited misgony, imagine what would happen if we stopped buying products advertised by these stations and let it be known why? Yes, imagine what would happen if we just said no more. We may make less money but a good majority of our market driven society is fueled by our decisions. Most of the men out there rely on us in the business world and the political world, they may have the public positions but without our work, even DC would come to a standstill.
Apparently men are right about us being the weaker sex since we have allowed the very situation that exists today to continue. Had we stopped playing the victim years ago and actually used the power we had, this country and this world could be a much better place and it is very likely that the number of women in positions of power would have been such that so many would have not pinned their hopes on this presidential primary.
Imagine what would happen if we actually treated each other with the same level of respect that we bitch about the male world not giving us...Until that day comes? Women will never be fairly represented, we will never share equally the power and we will continue to give men the ability to make decisions about our bodies and our lives.
Hopefully our daughters and our granddaughters will do a better job than we have done, we have failed, and we only have ourselves to blame...
