Edwards to drop out and how I learned about it...

I have a friend who works on the Edwards campaign, but he did not ever give me any kind of secret information or special treatment, he and I don't work that way. But I could sense how things were going by reading the messages that he left on his "away/status" message on gmail. Sometimes the message would be one that would let me know he was pissed, other times it would be links to YouTube videos or other short retorts that let me know the fight was still continuing. I knew how busy he was so I didn't want to bother him so I watched his messages and took clues from there...

Just a few moments ago it said "The final bow". I knew...and while I hoped against hope with the record fundraising yesterday that John Edwards was going to stay all the way as he promised. I hoped John Edwards would make it to Ohio and not give up. I wrote my friend that I was sad for him, sad for me and sad for our country.

Now the media will focus on the two that they've focused on and those of us who were Edwards fans will have to decide which of the two we can tolerate...

Edwards out of the way, the Democrats have locked in another Republican in the White House for another term. As I have said in the past, Middle America isn't going to vote in a woman or a black man in the White House just yet. Maybe in the next twenty to fifty years from now, but not this year. Maybe they would vote in a woman, if it wasn't Hillary.

Sorry your guy is out, Lisa. But look at it this way, Rudy dropped out as well, so no more 9-11 speeches.

I think they might vote for a woman, before a black man which I guess now we will find out.

Or...we'll end up with another Republican President and it looks like McCain...Which I can't say is thrilling though it would be better than another four years of a Bush.

As a past Edwards supporter, I'll likely support Obama, for two reasons: Number one, I don't believe Hillary is electable as she starts out with high negative ratings. Number two, I don't like the campaign she and Bill have run, focusing on negative campaigning.

Also, I believe that Obama is bringing more young people into the process and that could tip the balance in some of the swing states.

As a parent of five, four of which are old enough to vote, two of those four it will be their first presidential race, none of them have yet been attracted to Obama as a candidate. Nor have any of their friends really expressed excitement, which does not mean it is not happening elsewhere, but it has not happened here yet in my part of Ohio. It is something I have been watching for since it was stated when John Kerry ran that he was going to garner huge support from the college aged voting group that never materialized in large enough numbers to help him.

I realize Edwards supporters are torn, some are going to support Obama and some are going to support Clinton with a few probably not deciding until later exactly how they feel.
