Those of you who have visited me in Photo Hunts in the past know that I am very interested in cemeteries, from a historical aspect and also one of admiration of some of the artwork that is involved in some of the funeral statuary. New Orleans is a favorite City of mine and the Metairie Cemetery has some of the most beautiful tombs I have ever seen anywhere it is a large cemetery with over 150 acres and 7,000 graves. There is a tomb there that is shaped like a pyramid, the sphinx below is an almost life size statue that adorns the side of the pyramid...To me the art work there and on the tomb you can see to the left is just a small example of the artisanship that was required to create these pieces of art.

That is absolutely stunning! I love the color of the sky behind the statutes - very, very nice!
very beautiful--reminds me of the Sphinx!
Neat! Reminds me of how much I wanted to see the Pyramids of Egypt
How interesting! We love exploring old cemeteries. Thanks for sharing this.
if the cemeteries here in our place are as interesting, i would haunt cemeteries, too! :)
loving this ...
That is amazing really. I am a big fan of cemetaries too. The art in the shrines is just lovely, I think.
I love the concept. The backdrop is the sky. It made the picture really interesting.
An excellent choice sweetheart, I was going to use the tomb that was designed to look like a castle but then I thought of something different.
:)
That is certainly beautiful. I'd love to know why the family of the deceased chose to bury their loved one(s) in a tomb like this.
Breathtaking!!
Happy photo hunting
It was the tomb of the Brunswig family, here is a picture of the full tomb, link
There's not a lot of information on the family as to why they decided to build a pyramid.
Wow, that is amazing. When in Ireland we stopped by an old cemetary on the side of the road to take pictures and they were amazing!
Beautiful art! That funeral statuary is stunning.
great picture!!!
Very interesting art!
Love the picture! Especially that it comes from the cemetery. There is so much "art" in the statues, the last words, everything. Plus the Egyptians had some talent for art.
