Goji Berries then and now...

If you have never heard of Goji Berries before, there is an interesting story to their history that I learned when I researched the topic. I learned that some believe it started with Tibetan monks and their reported longevity which is suggested is due to these berries. There is also the story of Li Qing Yuen who is claimed to have lived for 252 years, in part due to Goji Berries, while no one really knows for sure if he was real or fictional, the story of Li Qing Yuen has been used to promote herbal remedies and a healthful way of living that includes these berries and now in todays time many people turn to Goji Berry Juice instead of the berries to gain those health benefits.

Goji Berries are however not easy to grow, the berries are very tender and must be shaken gently rather than hand picked. It's also documented that these berries have been consumed in Asia for many hundreds of years. There is even a celebration for wolfberries (another name for goji berries) in Zhongning County each August. There the fruit was nicknamed the "happy berry" because of the sense of well-being those who consume it says it creates.
