Blogging support systems...

No this post isn't about some technical issue when it comes to blogging. There are millions of blogs out there, on various topics that I look at each week in doing reviews and in writing my column for a local newspaper. Yet one of the ways blogs can be utilized is as a support system for people dealing with a personal issue. One such blog that is out there is on the topic of Drug Rehab. It's designed as a way to share thoughts from those who are dealing with the issue of drug abuse and to provide information on treatment.

Forums or blogs that are created as a support system play a very integral role in helping people survive day by day. It gives people the feeling that they are not alone, and let's face it one of the worst things about any kind of a problem is you feel you are the only one in the world who is experiencing this. You also can feel as if what is happening to you is the worst situation ever then come upon someone who is going through more than you are at that moment. Which means not only can it be supportive but it can be a reality check at times as well.

Interesting that I just posted a comment on a similar subject. When I first got online in 1994, it was to research treatment options for my husband's terminal colon cancer. I ended up in Compuserve's cancer forum and it turned out to be one of the most positive experiences I've ever had. Had I known about blogging way back then, you can bet I'd have been working through a lot of emotions through it.
