My 18 year old has been talking about buying a newer car that would be in her name and require a monthly car payment. She had an eye-opening experience after getting a car insurance quote on the difference in cost between driving a family car covered by my husband's car insurance and doing it on her own. Suddenly, the idea of driving the once hated "beater car", that only costs $30.00 a month for insurance doesn't seem so bad...
