Of Cats and leather sofas...

One of the downsides of having cats, especially five cats, conflicts with human desires such as furniture; I'll start with living room furniture. I once had a beautiful almost navy blue velor material L shaped living room outfit then it dawned on me after the first few days...All of our cats are light colored and they seem to feel that any piece of furniture must be here for them. The only way the furniture looked decent was to vacuum it everyday or use a fur roller which realistically it was faster to vacuum. Two of the cats are declawed, three are not, which means every time Miguel talks about wanting leather sofas, after I get done cringing at the feeling of sitting on cold leather in the winter time it only takes one word to make him stop thinking how great that would be. "Claws".

Even when it comes to bedroom furniture the topic of pets comes into play. It's one of the reasons we wanted a king sized bed, so that I actually had some room so that I was not trapped between Miguel and the dog. That is one advantage of the dog, she doesn't let the cats sleep on the bed. Of course at times it can wake you up when she chases an errant cat out of the room but it does keep the cat fur off of the bed at least at night, during the day all bets are off. Another advantage of the larger bed is when there is an invasion of children, especially during scary movie nights when a certain child swears she will be able to sleep in her own bed after watching a horror flick and then...can't.

As I've said many times before, I enjoy shopping in a furniture store online , there is a larger selection, you can see all of the color options and many times if the store offers free shipping it can be less expensive than some of our local furniture outlet locations. Sometimes even if there is a shipping charge it can be less expensive and it is much easier to do price comparisons online than it is to drive from store to store to try to see what is comparable.

In the end at times I do have to wonder how I got roped into keeping the extra cats as the girls have moved without their supposed "cherished felines" and I do have to agree with Miguel that cats don't do much to help around the house. Except I do have to give them credit for their fly and spider removal abilities and with five cats, we have not had a mouse in our house, or at least not one that I've seen in years.
