FEMA learns errors in food management...

According to this Washington Post article 6 million meals spoiled. Apparently this was caused due to not enough cold storage for the food.
In all, hundreds of truckloads of food worth more than $40 million are being thrown away or scavenged for unspoiled contents to be offered to domestic hunger-relief groups, FEMA officials said. Most of the meals were commercial versions of the military's Meals Ready to Eat, which were ruined despite being engineered to withstand the demands of desert and jungle climates.

I think the spoiling of the MRE's is especially disturbing since they are supposed to withstand tougher environments. According to the article, after this experience FEMA will be changing how it stockpiles food, trying to balance the ability to have items close and yet not have this much waste and spoilage. How that works we won't find out until there has been another natural disaster....

I think we ate MREs in the Army that were several years old. Although I did see a case of something in Hattiesburg that was some kind of nasty sounding fish dinner

Sometimes a contractor tends to squeeze out a little more profit by cutting corners.

They have money to burn.., OUR MONEY.
