Morning has broken...

It's the first thought that came to mind when I heard the theme was broken...

By Cat Stevens....

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day

What a great take on the theme and a great picture - even though I would prefer that morning break without me!

What a beautiful take on today's theme!! I have always loved that song. I think I read somewhere that it is actually an old Appalacian song.

You really won't believe this but earlier in the week there was a photo meme for sunrise and I had the same inspiration... then broken came up so I picked several different items but still couldn't get that song out of my head... so I did back link it.

Did you know that the tune was also an old Christmas carol?

Child in the manger, Infant of Mary,
Outcast and Stranger, Lord of all,
Child Who inherits all our transgressions,
All our demerits on Him fall.

Once the most holy Child of salvation
Gently and lowly lived below.
Now as our glorious mighty Redeemer,
See Him victorious o’er each foe.

Prophets foretold Him, Infant of wonder;
Angels behold Him on His throne.
Worthy our Savior of all our praises;
Happy forever are His own

There was no reference to the author of these words.

I didn't know that srp, thank you. I'm a long time fan of Cat Stevens but I wasn't aware of the historical aspect of the song.
