What's really extreme about the new TMX Elmo

Having survived thru many seasons of the "must have" toys from Care Bears to Cabbage Patch dolls to the first tickle me Elmo, there is now....TMX Elmo. Quite a few people are upset about the new TMX Elmo, not because they don't think he's cute (watch the video here if you want to see him in action) though there are a few Elmo haters out there, but they are upset because TMX Elmo has a retail price of $39.99 and some believe there is a purposeful attempt to not make enough TMX Elmo's. Thanks to our suppy and demand economy some are selling these toys for well over $150.00 and higher in the ebay market while over at Amazon there are some unhappy mommies and daddies:

Fisher Price says this item should sell for $40.00. Wal-mart has it priced for under that. How dare you take a children's toy and hike up the price to where it is unafordable!!!!

I will boycott Amazon. Too bad since that is where I did the bulk of my christmas shopping last year. Not this year-you won't get my money. My child can wait, and we will all learn not to get suckered in like this. Shame on you.

and:

I don't know how you sleep at night. Scalping the price of a children's toy and calling it a collectible to make yourself feel better is absolutely scandalous. SHAME ON YOU!!! This is a wonderful TOY , not a collectible. Don't call it that so you feel justified in charging 5 times the amount Fisher-Price released it at.

In reality it's not really Fisher Price or even Amazon that is going to make a profit from the price gouging that is already happening with Elmo, that's 100% pure human nature of wanting to be the "first".

So not only is TMX Elmo really extreme but he seems to evoke some pretty extreme emotions as well as profits for those who re-sell him. Yet despite the knowledge that after X-mas there will probably be lots of TMX Elmo's available, it will be fun to watch to see how high Elmo can go as hoards of parents, grandparents and aunties and uncles battle to be the one to present TMX Elmo to their little tots...

For the people who bitch about the price, 1.)$40 is not that expensive for a child's toy (just look at some Barbie dools and all they do is stand still), 2.) your child doesn't need a plastic piece of crap like that, and 3.) sounds like you need to get an extra job to spoil your child.

Ten years ago, when the first tickle me Elmo was on the market, I was on a waiting list for the thing and we were lucky to get it before Chirstmas (at $39.99 back in 1996) and what did my then 18 month old daughter do when she saw Elmo got tickled? She ran into her room crying and screaming. That thing scared the shit out of her. Where is that first generation Tickle Me Elmo? In the trash, rotting.

I just can't wait for the next horror flick that stars the evil Tickle Elmos that go on a bloody killing spree, just like Chucky. Heh, heh, heh.

Erin actually had a Chuckie doll - she loved that silly thing and even slept with it. I lost a babysitter over that doll since she freaked out over Erin having that as her favorite doll, Erin was about three at the time.

People are not mad about the 39.99 part - it's that they can't find the doll for that price and they don't want to pay a couple of hundred bucks.

There was a review on Amazon for the new TMZ Elmo that pretty much describes what happened with your daughter to another woman's child. She did say however that the older relatives seemed to enjoy Elmo - lol

Your daughter played with and slept with a Chuckie doll. Why does that not surprise me?

As for the parents who can't make their kids build some character by saying no to them once in a whlie, tell them that they will get a late Christmas Elmo after the new year. This way they only spend 40 bucks and the kid can look forward to play with it for ten minutes before throwing it in the box of forgotten toys; like all the other X-mas presents.

They should buy the kids books. It takes 100's of years for their value to go up.

Lisa,

"In reality it's not really Fisher Price or even Amazon that is going to make a profit from the price gouging that is already happening with Elmo, that's 100% pure human nature of wanting to be the "first"."

So, why are you boycotting Amazon? You know they aren't selling Elmo at these prices, some of their resellers are.

By all means those gouging resellers should be ignored.

Hooda - I'm not boycotting Amazon - I was quoting from some of the irate mommies and daddies who posted the comments in italics from the Amazon website.

yeah... TMX Elmo is definitely the hottest toy of the year, the price of this toy will only go up as we approach Christmas time, and you will be lucky one if you get it at $40. Tmx Elmo Blog
