Yet it appears Ecorse Mayor Pro Tem Theresa Peguese has had other problems, in October of 2005 her house was firebombed:
Peguese, the first-term councilwoman, would not say why she believes that nor who may be responsible.
"I don't have a problem with anybody personally," said Peguese, who is up for re-election Nov. 8. "I've been accused of taking money and contracts while in office and they kept my name off the ballot. I don't know why someone would try to threaten me and my children's lives over a political race. That's the only problem I'm having in my life right now. I just thank God we're all alive."
Earlier:
In September 2004, Peguese was removed from the Ecorse City Council over allegations that she violated the charter.
It was alleged Peguese's construction company was doing work for the city and owed it $10,000 when she was elected, which violated the city charter.
Peguese blamed a recording error and reimbursed the city $10,000.
Elected officials cannot have contracts while in office or owe money to the city when they take office.
A month later, Wayne County Circuit Judge William Giovan ordered the council to reinstate Peguese
From this it looks like there has been some bad feelings between Peguese and other council members. Then the most recent stituation:
Peguese was siding with a resident who wanted to build a modular home, despite the city attorney telling her that the council didn't have the authority to bypass zoning rules.
"Councilwoman Peguese continued by saying that this would not be the first time that City Council would have committed a criminal act," Anthony's report says.
The mayor then told Peguese that she "should be the last person to call someone 'criminal,'" the report says.
After telling the mayor he didn't want to "go there," the report says Peguese walked toward Salisbury "in what appeared to be an effort to engage him in a fight."
Standing within inches of Salisbury's face, the report says, Peguese "struck the mayor in the chest and neck area with both of her hands, causing him to stumble backward into his desk."
Council members Robert Hellar and Angela Smith, along with Anthony, restrained Peguese as the mayor left through a back door.
Gee, makes our City Council meetings look tame...

A simple observation with regards to local politicians.
Be on the city council, extract brain from skull. Or at the very least lose all common sense (liberal or otherwise) until returning to private life.
Peguese seems to be suffering from thin skin syndrome, which can be fatal to politicians.
