Blogging for Good not Evil...

Sometimes you come across a rumor that would probably rocket you into the spotlight, the natural tendency at first is to blog about it. I've been in that position a few times. Today once again, I discovered something that could possibly hurt someone, even cost them their job.

The legal risk to me would be minimal, I'd merely be passing on what another person is claiming is the truth. It was posted on an open forum so there was no promise made to keep something off the record. Yet, what if it's not true?

So I did what I felt was the best thing to do. I wrote the person that this was about and told them what had been posted. If it's not true they can go after the person who was spreading a false rumor. If it's true? Well then that person will have to decide how to deal with it.

Why even blog about it? Because that's something that troubles me about the blogosphere at times. The desire to try to destroy someone because they don't share your views. Someone else could very well decide to run with this, the internet is full of people who don't stop and think about the consequences of their actions. Of course the person that first posted the rumor would be to blame, yet that doesn't mean we as bloggers should be without some level of responsibility.

I'll never become "famous" this way but ya know what? I can live with that.

Integrity is it's own reward. Or, well, something like that.

What is the rumor?

Is it alright if I am the one to start the rumor to post it? I don't want to have to retract any of the good ones

lmao me4 if I told you what it was then I'd be going against what I decided. If it turns out to not be a rumor then I'll post about it.

Good on you. Who would want the "fame" of being a gossip? *Yeh, some would. *sigh*) And were it to turn out to have been a false accusation, who'd want the infamy of having been libelous?

What if I call my items satire and not gossip? Is that alright?

I like Satire, I'm just not very good at it.
