Miguel called me this afternoon, and asked me "What's up with Hackett and the war crimes rumors". I already knew about the rumors but didn't think it was going to become a huge issue now, however, according to my conservative husband...Rush was having a field day on this topic. Miguel was impressed with Hackett and was almost as disappointed as I was when we heard Paul was out of the race. I don't listen to Rush but it sounds like he was in full attack mode. I reminded Miguel that Rush, in my opinion wasn't that accurate most times anyway and that just recently he had stated that Sherrod Brown was black.
Then, I started checking to see what was going on in the Ohio blogosphere....
My biggest fear appears to have started, that the way Paul Hackett left the race was going to create an even larger problem and once again become "the issue" rather than "the issues". That's why I felt it would have been better for all of those meddling party politico's to let Hackett continue in the primary. If Sherrod beat him? Fine, there was a better chance Hackett backers would support Sherrod Brown than the way things were done.
It's become the "Swiftboating of Paul Hackett"....
Mia Culpa, Renee in Ohio, Buckeye Senate Blog...and I could go on.
We need to find out who started this rumor, but if the Democrats want to win? They also need to keep focusing on the issues, and not let things get sidetracked. Be angry, but also remember that Paul himself said that he would rather see Sherrod Brown win than Mike DeWine.....

The Democrats provided this opportunity to their opponents. That is why I can't stand them or support them any longer. There was a better way to handle it and a competitive primary could have helped the victorius candidate with legitimacy. Now, this will take away from the candidate and turn it into the 2004 presidential election. A battle of rumor and defensiveness.
I am not sure why the Democrats are so ignorant. Do they really like losing that much, really like to help their freinds, or ar ethey just that stupid that they don't get it. In the end, the Republicans are their opponents and cannibalism does them no good.
I guess the only bright side I can think of is to get this out of the way now, especially since it's not going to be a highly contested primary battle for Sherrod. That way there might be a chance things will be calmer in the General election campaign.
I wish they would just out whoever did this and get it over with, and hope they have no connection to Sherrod Brown. Supposedly Harry Reid knows, if that's true? He needs to just spill it.
And one more thing, I can handle conservatives as long as they don't like Rush or Hannity and their ilk. I prefer intelligent debate to "Bill Clinton's mom was a lesbian alien communist."
I tease him and call him a Republican...he prefers to be called a "conservative" which is okay. He's no where near as political as I am, which is probably a good thing.
His choice of radio talk show hosts bugs me he's more of a Glenn Beck fan than Rush but he supports me in what I'm doing locally. He's gone to all of the Lucas County Young Democrats meetings with me and so far while I haven't converted him totally to my way of thinking? I think there's some slight cracks...He really liked Paul Hackett and we both agree on some Republicans we like (Dave Schulz :-))
Now my daughters? Way more liberal than me.
:-)
I doubt it will blow over because the Republicans won't let it and the Democrats are too dense to handle it properly
I'm trying to be optimistic...Sherrod's coming to Toledo on Monday and I get a chance to see what he's saying first hand so until then? I'm thinking positive or at least trying to...
:-)
Tell him that Me4President is very angry and has a potty mouth
lmao - nooo you have potty fingers - unless of course you add the wonderful new toy that I have that will add a voice to your blog.
Wow...I wonder does it do swear words?
:-)
I may sign up and find out
Well, I guess if it doesn't swear it's not something I'll ever be able to use.
I'll find out, I'll throw myself on the firey pits of hell to find out...but I will find out..Curiousity has made me wonder.
:-)
"The Swiftboating" of a candidate is [was?] a great way to dissolve any credibility that a candidate had.
Unfortunately, the Dems can seldom use this tactic because most of the Reps have never served in the Armed Forces.
Only problem is in this case it doesn't appear it came from Republicans. It looks like there is a very strong possibility this was Democrat on Democrat Swifting...
Personally I think this type of action is never necessary by either side. It's gutter politics at it's worst.
