Today's Toledo Blade as linked above points out Lucas County auditor, Larry Kaczala's connections to U.S. Rep. Bob Ney who has a role in the whole Abramoff scandal. Though we don't know how far Ney's involvement, the Blade feels that Democrats in Ohio will be able to use both Noe and Ney in the upcoming election.
I'm not too sure about that. It's possible, however if the last election shows anything it's that the Noe story did not have a huge impact. Jack Ford tried to tie Carty Finkbeiner to Noe, either that didn't work or it didn't matter. Betty Schultz who was involved somehow in the Noe situation as a possible conduit was re-elected.
It's going to take more than "Oh Look what those bad Republicans did" to win. If the Democrats can manage to pull together and present a solid message beyond Noe and Ney? That's going to win for them. Sadly enough people seem to expect politicians to be corrupt.

I couldn't drag and click to copy something, but you said something to the effect that people expect politicians to be corrupt, so...
Vote Out Incumbents for Democracy!!!
I know, I know. I've said it before. And, I'll undoubtably say it again, but...
If you are concerned with excising corruption out of the government, please look into VOID. This is a movement that wishes to organization voters who are disenfranchized with our corrupt system and peaceably force the government to once again act on behalf of, by and for the people.
Does this make me a blog whore, too?
No Stephanie, I almost included a link to VOID too.
So thanks.
:-)
I like the concept of VOID, but I am too jaded to think that new politicians would not be as corupt. I feel, in theory of VOID, that we would get semi honest politicians but only after about ten to fifteen election cycles. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, only that it would take at least 20 to 25 years to start getting things right.
Hopefully, I am wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.
That's a good point C, I'm hoping it would not take that long if enough people would actually support VOID. I've tried voting a majority third party and there just doesn't seem to be the support so the concept of VOID appears to have a broader appeal and it would create change.
If people actually want change...guess we'll find out.
:-)

"Sadly enough people seem to expect politicians to be corrupt."
Sadly, enough of us are right...
cyber,
Part of the theory of VOID is that politicians are not necessarily intentionally corrupt, but that they are corrupted by the system. With a new crop of politicians, politicians who will know (and we'll make sure they do) that they were elected by VOTERS not by dollars, we (the constituents) will finally have the means to pass legislation that will fix the broken, corrupted parts of the system, thus forcing politicians to abandon their corruption in favor of service as political office was intended to be by our Founding Fathers.
Since many politicians are career politicians and will do whatever it takes to secure their own re-election, we hope to remind politicians (and voters) that, in the end, it is people, not money, that secures elections. Take away the money aspect, you reduce the influence of lobbyists, corporate donors and the extremely rich and put that influence back where it belongs...in the hands of the constituents.
While I myself am young and do not have an enormous wealth of experience to draw on, others within the VOID organization come from varied backgrounds that include previous efforts to restore balance back to the government. We are conservatives, moderates and liberals joined in a common cause (proving that yes, it can happen) to restore balance to the government.
Many ways have been tried. Some few have succeeded, but most have failed. By setting aside partisanship and working on goals that the majority of Americans can agree need to be accomplished (even when they cannot agree on how to accomplish them) we stand as a larger, more significant voice that will be heard.
VOID is now in it's infancy (we only started in Oct. '05), but we are growing at a rate that is currently stretching our compacities. Volunteers are needed and volunteers do have a voice in how this movement takes place.
Feel free to offer your support by joining VOID and we promise to listen to your ideas and use them to help accomplish the goals of our movement.
Stephanie,
I do like the idea, but you have an uphill battle, which you seem to understand that. I'm glad that some of the younger voters are doing something.
I will try and do my part in sporeading VOID, but, as Lisa and atest to this, I have lots on my plate and I'm just starting on the outer rim of it. If you have the will, the desire, the sacrfice, and time to do it, more power to you. I hope that it won't take very long, but be ready for the long haul. The reason the incumbents are incumbents is because most people are ok with what they have and the others just don't care at all.
With that said, good luck to you and may you be vitorious in your battle.
cyber,
Thank you! Your support is certainly appreciated.
I understand having a lot on your plate and will take your word on it with no need for Lisa to aver that for you.
:-)
Maybe if you gave up sleeping C...after all it is sooo over-rated
(mumbles Lisa who is about to enter the second night of hell from what "they" gave me)
:-)
I tried that (giving up sleep). It makes for some nice hallucinations, but is hardly sustainable.
Though, as a creative tool it can do wonders, as long as you can make sense of it afterwards.
:-)
I tend to not make sense if I go to long without sleep.
I'll probably write more about it later now that I have a picture but certain people decided I had mourned the loss of my manchester terrier long enough and brought a puppy into the house.
Not stopping to realize of course was I ready or did I want to go thru the "joy" of having a puppy. Tonight should be better, she's realized the crate is not something I'm willing to negoitiate with her on.
:-)
"I tend to not make sense if I go to long without sleep."
Creativity isn't about making sense most of the time...that's what re-writes are for...I was thinking more about the hand-writing.
Good luck on the puppy...and boy, am I glad I'm not in your shoes there!
Especially since I'd have to have the debate of which is more valuable, the puppy or the protein, with my husband.
I wish I wasn't in my shoes right now either - lol. It was def not what I felt I needed right now.
Though I do still really miss Draco, she's not Draco nor will she ever be. He was one of those one of a kind dogs.
Anyway, she's finally settling down so into her crate she goes and hopefully a few hours more sleep than last night.
:-)
I hope you sleep well. As for myself, I pumped myself full of caffeine, without thinking of the long-term (meaning several hours, instead of a two or three) nature of the effects, so I'll be up for quite awhile yet.
I might even manage to be productive.
Pleasant dreams to you when you get done with your productivity...be productive for me too okay?
:-)
I suppose since this is "your" dog and "your" gift, that you have to do all the work, despite the fact that the dog was not at your request.
I can keep up a monologue on here if ya' really want me to, but other than that...
Stephanie, you are very perceptive and realistically I'd rather have it that way. At least she'll be trained the way I want.
Night...
:-)
Oooo! I found pens! Now THAT really is productive!
Because they run away. And they never seem to make it back home. And, well, it's not like we have a pen police to go and hunt them down. Besides, I usually get really cool pens, so the pen police would probably just keep them anyway and say they couldn't find them.
And, no, the hallucinations have NOT started yet. This is normal. For me, anyway.
;-)
I guess I can see that (about the training). I've never been very good at it myself, so t'wouldn't be a good idea for me.
Good night.
Shall I keep up the monologue?
It doesn't all have to be about pens, ya' know.
Though you wouldn't figure it, dust can be an interesting topic of conversation. Especially if the suspected audience doesn't know much about dust. Or dust mites. Or dust mite feces. Or how much weight a typical mattress gains in the course of it's lifetime.
Hint: Don't breath while you sleep, it's bad for your health.
Oh, and wash your pillows.
Okay, I'll stop now, because I doubt this is what Lisa meant.
Lisa, feel free (and encouraged) to delete these.
:-)
Pens was good, though my personal favorite disappearing item around here is socks. Pens are a close second.
We are alot alike...thanks for the smiles this morning. I actually got 5 hours of sleep! WOHOOO!
:-)
VOID doesn't need to produce numbers equal, or even close, to Democrat and Republican voters. VOID only needs a few million votes to knock a number of incumbents out of office, in states where Democrats and Republicans have close to a 50-50% representation in the state. In races that would have been won by 2 or 3%, 2.5 to 3.5% of VOID voters will alter the race knocking the incumbent out.
This is called Power in Small Numbers which is explained in detail over at VOID. This is precisely why it won't take 20 years for VOID to be successful. Our goal is reshape politics decisively in America by 2010, just 4 years and 3 elections from now.
VOID is a serious movement whose members are committed to improving government. It supports no specific party or ideology. VOID is sustainable over time and I believe will help change the institutional deficiencies within government. It is a movement worth supporting.
I don't think anyone suggested VOID wasn't serious Dennis, David thank you for the additional information. It appears here in Ohio though that there would have to be a larger number of voters in most key races since not only have several ran unopposed but won by very large majorities. It does make more sense in areas that do have a closer election outcome.
In Ohio, the only major race that comes to mind that will involve an incumbent that has the potential for a close vote will be DeWine. (Depending of course on which one wins the primary to go against him, Brown or Hackett).
I do still believe VOID is a better option to consider even in states where there is not close to a 50/50 split, if nothing else to send a message to the incumbent that we are out there and watching. Unless of course a miracle third party candidates appear from everywhere that people will actually support instead of the continual choice of D or R.
Dan, don't worry about the format, it was still readable. I agree with you that we need more choices. It was amazing to me how many candidates here in Ohio were not challenged. Not just local judges and other positions but in our Ohio Congress as well. Where Republicans or Democrats or Independents decided not to even bother to challenge the seat.
I agree Dan it is the system as it currently stands that seems to encourage/breed corruption.
Nor do I hold it against you for donating to the Republican party in the past. You were supporting what you felt at the time. Even if you still donated there would be nothing wrong with that, while I personally don't like the current two party system it is realistically a choice for most people between the two because of the lack of alternative candidates. If more of us were involved I believe we would have a much better system. I've supported Republicans, Democrats and Independents in the past and I'm sure that will continue in the future.
Ah, you go away and sleep for a few hours and intellectual conversation slips in.
*sigh*
Ah, well.
:-)
I'm glad you enjoyed my monologue, Lisa.
And, thank you all for jumping in to discuss VOID!!!
You get the credit for starting it Stephanie, so thank you.
Not to mention I really enjoyed your monlogue and even washed my pillows too...
:-)
Hey Dan!
If you're still there, check your e-mail! I have no idea how to unzip it!
