Cats are smarter than you think.....

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an officer walked into an apartment Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor. The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen out of his wheelchair.

Daugherty said police received a 911 call from Rosheisen's apartment, but there was no one on the phone. Police called back to make sure everything was OK, and when no one answered, they decided to check things out.

That's when Daugherty found Tommy next to the phone.

Rosheisen got the cat three years ago to help lower his blood pressure. He tried to train him to call 911, unsure if the training ever stuck.

The phone in the living room is always on the floor, and there are 12 small buttons — including a speed dial for 911 right above the button for the speaker phone.

"He's my hero," Rosheisen said.

Mrs. Thunkit pointed this one out to me (She reads the local rag and even touches it...).

Our kitty has never done such a thing, but we don't doubt that she could.

I've heard of rescue dogs, but I think this is my first rescue cat story. Impressive! Thank you.

Awwww....

I'm thinking my Alex might try to call 911... unless he found someone else to give him breakfast. It's all about the breakfast. :)

Thanks for posting this!

harrumph...

Wily cat was probably trying to steal the guy's credit card and order in Chinese.

(historymike is a dog lover. If I were in the wilderness staring down a bear, or looking at a crazed sociopath in my driveway, you can bet I would rather have a snarling dog than an indifferent, self-centered cat who would likely sell me out for a can of Friskies fish-and-chicken livers)

That's funny Mike as my first thought about my cats would be they would figure out how to order in Chinese, then maybe save me once they discovered they needed a person to use my debit card.

Having had both cats and dogs, I've been lucky enough to have had both who have been good pets. Now that I don't have Draco (who I still really miss) the cats are trying to replace him yet I'll admit it's not the same. The other day I was having a blue moment and was crying. Typically that would have been when Draco would try to "cheer" me up. Two of the cats came over, now was it real concern or was it "HEY YOU stop sniffling and fill up our food dish!"...I don't know...

My cat knows how to knock the phone off the dresser.

Valbee- I am better off with our cat not knowing how too also. She would call every time she wanted soft food
