Jeff Seeman's 100 hours of homelessness

Whatever his reasons, I give Jeff Seeman a major thumbs up for deciding he was going to spend 100 hours homeless in Ohio. The link above to his blog has some of the details of what he has experienced so far.

While some are stating he's doing this as a publicity stunt? It's a heck of a way to try to get attention and if he really did want attention? You'd think the media would be covering this more. So far it seems it's only been the blogs.

I might not agree with some of his positions or some of his past statements but? Not many other politicians are willing to experience what too many people go thru for even 100 hours.

Lisa,

If Jeff was doing it for publicity, it would apparently be for after the fact coverage.

I've bookmarked his site and will reserve judging his motives until after the dust settles.

If he does what he says, it will change him forever.

This "walk a mile" stuff can be life changing...

Great story, Lisa; thanks for sharing it.

Sure, Jeff Seeman has publicity in mind, but it's still a noble experiment.

I am anxious to see how it all turns out.

I had a similar thought of doing something like this, but in a journalistic capacity. What do you think? What would some of the parameters be in such an endeavor (how much money could I start with, where should I go, what could I take with me)?

I fail to see what is wrong with a publicity stunt. People always level the "charge" that something is a "publicity stunt" as if that negates the value of the stunt. If it brings attention to the plight of the homeless and also helps him in his effort to get elected, then that's a perfectly legitimate reason to do it. If someone said what I was doing was a publicity stunt, I would say, "Yeah, and now let's deal with the issues instead of tying to make the story about my motivations."

I think the reason DBK is that some believe if the reason is publicity to try to raise money for his political campaign alone is the concern. That's the general impression I've gotten from some who are not that supportive of what Jeff is doing.

I mentioned it because it has been said and I don't know if Jeff's motivation is as he stated to experience what others are to make him a better candidate and person or something else. I prefer to wait before I make judgements like that about people.

Mike, I think that would be an idea to consider. Toledo has it's own homeless population, as every city does. I don't think anyone has done that locally (not that I can remember)

Who cares why he started it. We should judge how he comes out of it. Many things have been started with less than noble intentions but have had positive effects in the end. Let's hope that no matter why he started, he will come out with a little understanding.
