Is Adsense worth it?

I've thought about it, I tried it briefly but the ads were almost soft porn and when I went back and changed it to the more "child friendly" setting it was almost all gambling or scam type ads. Now supposedly it's different as far as content and you see everywhere these claims of how bloggers have made thousands of dollars with adsense (of course most of them want you to buy their "secret"). So I did some research. Everyone seems to be pretty closed mouthed about how much adsense pays per typical "click". Then I found a blog that has reached an average of 44,000 visits per week, well over 5,000 a day. This is compared to my blog which gets a little over a thousand visitors a week. You'd think a blog getting that many visitors would be making those big 4 figure amounts you read about especially in those trying to promote adsense wouldn't you?

The blog made $500.00 for the whole year. At the average rate of 20 cents per click (some confusing formula not just a straight amount per click) that means out of almost 800,000 visitors that this blog has had this year? Not even one percent of the visitors clicked. Another blogger averaged about 15,000 visits per week. In six weeks (90,000 visitors) he made $20.00. So for smaller blogs even figuring 1% would click? Let's say I end up with 20,000 visitors at the end of my first year? I'd be lucky to earn $40.00 in a year. I've made more than that on my cafepress store and I haven't even promoted it. So is it worth the hassle of having ads you don't like on your blog? For me? No. But I feel better because I know I'm not missing the "big" bucks by not participating in adsense.

I have had it for a year and made 7 cents.

If you only made 7 cents than I think I overestimated the possible $40.00...

My son, Hooda Jr. has achieved $ 1,400 in his best month, but usually averages $ 500 - 700 most months.

BTW it's a techie type blog...

I think that the techie blogs do better than others.

Well, we can tell I don't have a techie type blog but he's made more than most I know have so I'm happy for him.
