Your morning fear mongering....

Ebay once again finds itself in a position where it has to pull items. This time? Preying on fears from the Bird Flu. A five-day course of 10 Tamiflu capsules sells for $50 to $75. But one seller on the online site eBay was asking $175 yesterday.

It is important to note that and a second drug, Relenza do not cure the flu, they are supposed to reduce symptoms. It's supposedly illegal to sell prescription drugs on ebay but not surprising some yahoo's decided to profit from it.

Wilma is making the news this morning because the hurricane has now recorded one of the record lows. 882 MB, was recorded at the 8 am advisory. The media is making a huge deal out of the fact Wilma went so quickly into a Cat 5, however, the past several advisories predicted the storm could reach a Cat 4 or 5. At 11 p.m. last night:

11 PM EDT TUE OCT 18 2005

WILMA HAS DEVELOPED THE DREADED PINHOLE EYE. REPORTS FROM THE AIR
FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER INVESTIGATING WILMA BETWEEN 19Z AND
23Z INDICATED A 7-8 N MI WIDE EYE...WITH THE CENTRAL PRESSURE
DROPPING FROM 970 MB TO 954 MB IN 3 HR 14 MIN.

So while the low pressure is news worthy it's not really that big of a "shock" as the media is portraying it this morning.

Now on to Saddam, the media can't seem to decide if they should present the Saddam Iraqis still fear. Reports of an incident (off camera of course) where Saddam stares down two of his guards and appears defiant versus some expert who went on and on about Saddam's mother didn't want him and wanted an abortion. That Saddam lived without his mother for the first two years and when he did go back to his mother he was abused by his step-father. Then we go on to descriptions of what happened to individuals under Saddam's control. Now called the "Republic of Fear".

No mention of course of the US's role in any of Iraq's history.

So, to wrap up, the Bird Flu is going to kill us all, well all of us that Wilma doesn't take out first and? Saddam is well...Saddam....Boston? Sorry you got punked in the fear and terror department though you did make the headlines.

So, I woke up with the sniffles, and I ache all over.

Wilma is going to attack Ohio.

And, We're all gonna DIE...

It's just another regular day where I work, and kinda boring at that...

My response to all the bad news is from "About Last Night" with a conversation between actors Elizabeth Perkins and Rob Lowe.

EP: "Have you heard about Western Civilization? It's decling you know."

RL: "I live in a safe neighborhood."

Well, while the drama of this past week are simmering, there is REAL ISSUES to deal with.

Wilma.

My wife is in Vienna and I am left here to fend for myself. I am so thankful I moved off the barrier island. They're saying a Cat 1, but judging from the temps in the gulf, by the time it reaches my side of the state it should still be a Cat 2. This storm is comming at us from the west, so ocean damage should be minimal. (heh)

So I am going to soak up as much of this as I can, because if history repeats itself, I'll be out of power for a week. (shudder)

I'll be the idiot jumping up and down behind Jim Cantore, for those keeping track.

I'm sorry Brian, but when we get bad winter weather and lose power? It will be your job to update us after we get power again...Sound fair?

I think Wilma's going to weaken, winds are down, pressure is up, but I don't think they have a clue as to where she's going to end up. If you ever do face major destruction? You can always come back to Toledo...you know you miss us...

:-)

(As Brian runs screaming from the room NOOOO ANYTHING but that!!!)

btw, if you can get away with something like, well pushing Jim might get you into trouble but....rabbit ears maybe?

I'd like that...

:-)

I just went and dug out my old boogie board and some face paint. I'm going to dress up as a muslim surfer and vie for Jim's attentions!

shhhhhhhh..Imma try to put my finger in his ear

You're right tho, Lisa, but it's just another storm if ya leave the TV off. Wilma is going to give us our 5-10 inches of rain, and perhaps 50 mph winds, but it's the MEDIA FRENZY I'm feeding off of.

Heck, I remember the blizzard of 78. My buddy Jim rode his skateboard to school the day it started. Imagine his surprise when he showed up and found Jefferson Center closed and Tarta cancelled! :D

I meant Blizzard of 83 for Jefferson Center. Cripes. '78 I found dad digging a hole out the front door.
